I was looking at the data from last night with sleepyhead and it is shows a large clump of pressure pulses.
I think I may have answered my own question but it looks like I was knocking my mask off.
Would that be a correct assumption? I know I took it off for a couple hours. Just not sure if knocking it around caused those pulses....
What is a pressure pulse?
Re: What is a pressure pulse?
first, a pressure pulse is your machine's way of seeing whether your throat has closed up or you've simply stopped trying to breath (obstructive vs central apnea) it sends a pulse and watches to see how much the pressure bumps becuase of it, more bump, obstrucive, less bump, central.
you didn't knock your mask OFF, or the leak rate would have gone way up, and it didn't.
times like this is when it's nice for you to have filled out your profile so someone could offer a suggestion about what might have happened with your mask, but, you haven't listed what your mask is.
it looks like maybe you knocked it sideways, or you're using a nasal mask and you started breathing through your mouth, which is why there's no flow trace.
I'm just guessing since there's no info on what you're using.

Re: What is a pressure pulse?
Respironics machines generate pressure pulses when the machine detects no breathing (not mask off massive leakage) and uses them to differentiate between a obstructive event with the airway blocked and a clear airway (central type ) event. If the airway is open but you are not breathing, then the pressure response is minimal. If the airway is blocked, then the pressure response is larger and the system determines an obstructive event.
In your chart, the pressure pulses are associated with a clear airway event followed by what looks like an extended obstructive event. Resolution of your image makes it a little hard to be sure as the CA and OA tags look similar because of blurring.

Re: What is a pressure pulse?
Not sure why it wasn't showing before but I updated it again. The mouth breathing makes sense because my mouth was dry and my throat hurt in the morning.palerider wrote:times like this is when it's nice for you to have filled out your profile so someone could offer a suggestion about what might have happened with your mask, but, you haven't listed what your mask is.
