Re: Obstructive apnia looks like Central apnia on Oscar??
You do have a significant Flow Limitation around 06:48:45. Anything over .04 is significant in that it will cause the machine (ResMed) to increase pressure if not restricted by max settings. As Pugsy mentions, no doubt these events meet the machine's criteria to be classified as Obstructive. It is v...

Re: bandana or mouth muffle
Same idea. Looks a little larger than necessary, though. Probably more expensive than Scunci. A Scunci does exactly what you asked for in your initial post without being "tight". From my post above: When it is worn with the seam down, it tends to keep the bottom lip closed. It is porous so that chip...

Re: bandana or mouth muffle
Here's an item I suggest rather than tape. It's a stretch headband made from a thin, soft cotton like material similar to that of a T shirt. It is double thickness (a tube), but still thin with a seam at one edge. It doesn't unravel when cut. It is about 2.5 inches wide and fits nicely between the ...

Re: Using CPAP machine as performance monitor
According to my orthodontist MAD devices have a success rate of 85%, I'm ever hopeful that I will fall into that category. You may want to do a little more research. Many describe success of MAD to be an AHI less than 20 with a 50% decrease, as in this paper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/194...

Re: REM Sleep Detection Using OSCAR?
I believe I'm one of the few who does have such a noticeable change in Respiration Rate, as when others post graphs and if there Resp. Rate. chart is there, rarely do I see a REM like pattern. Not so rare: http://www.cpaptalk.com/posting.php?mode=quote&f=1&p=1299718 Have a look at this: http://www....

Re: Smargie’s Therapy Thread...in Need of ASV Advice
It is odd that the reading at the cursor is 0.00. A glitch, no doubt. However, it's the scale of the chart that prevents seeing the epap pressure at 4.0 from 3:26 until 4:18. Right click in the label area at the left side of the pressure graph. In the drop down menu that will come up, select Y axis,...

Re: Smargie’s Therapy Thread...in Need of ASV Advice
Good for you, Smargie. You've made remarkable progress since beginning your therapy and should be an inspiration to others. Don't worry about what your Doctor might think; remember, she works for you as part of your team. I'm sure she will be happy that you took control of your treatment. Keep up th...

Re: what keeps the airway open on expiration?
I think that we all know that muscles come in pairs, and simply relaxing a muscle does not cause a limb to move. It is the contraction of another muscle that causes the movement. If the diaphragm relaxes, gravity will pull the ribcage down, but the intercostal muscles are likely also active. Don't ...

Re: Smargie’s Therapy Thread...in Need of ASV Advice
Smargie, Often, the term "Pressure" when used alone refers to IPAP, Inspiratory Positive Airway Pressure . IPAP is the pressure the machine provides on inhalation. EPAP, Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure , is the pressure the machine maintains on exhalation. The difference between IPAP and EPAP is...

Re: Smargie’s Therapy Thread...in Need of ASV Advice
Somewhere in the results, it will tell the percentage of triggered breaths, which will give you an idea how hard the machine is working for you. You may also be able to see this result on the machine's LCD report I do not believe Resmed records triggered breaths on an ASV You could be right, Jas. I...
