Next on the list... a new mattress!
Next on the list... a new mattress!
So, I've been on my Cpap machine for almost a month and things couldn't have been better. Just can't say enough about how much better I already feel.
BUT... I'm thinking a new mattress may help even more and plan to go shopping this Friday or Sat. Was going to be looking around the $1200 to $1600 price range.
Has anyone bought a new mattress in the last year or so in that price range? If so, would love to hear your thoughts/recommendation!

You may also want to look at your pillow. A special pillow for our needs may help too and it's a lot cheaper.

Try Costco - Novoform Serrafina Memory Foam Mattress. $700-$900. Rated #2 in Consumer Reports. #1 is a $$$$ Sleep Number Mattress. The best part is you can return it anytime for any reason.
Or you can go to the mattress mafia and part with your budget. Did you know that most mattress retailers are owned by the same investment company.

Re: Next on the list... a new mattress!
About two years ago I got a new queen size SpringAir high end pillow top mattress. Actually, truth be told, my neighbors a few house down who are pretty rich bought it and used it a few months, then decided to try a memory foam product instead... ah, the joys of being rich <sigh>. They kindly offered it for free to our family and I love it... never look a gift neighbor (horse) in the mouth, especially if they are giving you $1400 dollar mattresses. It is a bit softer than I initially liked but I got used to it fast. If you want to know the model name, I'll flip it over and look, but you'll have to ask first because my back ain't what it used to be.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I second the Costco memory foam mattress recommendation; that is unless you have a generous rich neighbor who will give you theirs

Re: Next on the list... a new mattress!
I always thought and read some reports that memory foam would be too hot for California's temperate climate, but then I read somewhere that they came out with a memory foam that had holes drilled down thru it (all the way) so that it would ventilate and not trap heat. It sounds like a logical idea, has anyone tried one of those So, what's the deal, does it keep your downside cool in warm climes I just can't stand to be too hot while sleeping.sleep_quest wrote:I second the Costco memory foam mattress recommendation; that is unless you have a generous rich neighbor who will give you theirs

Re: Next on the list... a new mattress!
I am one month in on a memory foam bed with the "cooling" gel layer in it. I am telling you, this mattress is WARM even though its supposed to be the cooler version.
However, less covers takes care of it but i am worried about summer time heat and a warmer sleeping spot...could become unbearable. Great news is, if bought at the right place it is returnable for practically no questions asked.
As for comfort, it is great! my next step will be a pillow to go with it. I like my regular pillow because i can mash it to fit what i need, but some of the CPAP pillows i have looked at have me intrigued and will try one very soon.
Good Luck!

Me neither!
I'm on the SF Peninsula and don't have an issue with being too warm on this mattress. I do have a mattress pad on top of the mattress however so that might help. I sleep with a fan on during the summer (daytime highs mostly in the mid to upper 80s) and have no problems. If you are leary, you can always buy a mattress topper (3 inches of the same foam) to try out before you buy one. I did that with a couple of different manufacturer's toppers before I settled on the Costco one. It's a good thing my kids have the same size bed so I could pass along the 'rejects' to them.

A Sleep Number Bed is on my list; my budget for it keeps getting delayed by unexpected expenses that can't be delayed ... I do have a memory foam pillow that I love, and for a while I had a memory foam topper, which I decided I didn't like so I'm opting for SN Bed instead.

Re: Next on the list... a new mattress!
Dare I suggest this...... a waterbed! Not just the old 70's version, but a Strobel 1900 series finished off with a pillow top SensaSak. My setup only works if you have a wooden waterbed platform. Strobel also has soft side waterbed mattresses. I can't vouch for these but they look just as comfortable as my 'custom' setup.
I've gotten many years of great sleep on my wonderful waterbed. Check out the various options at Strobel.com. They have other types of beds too, including air beds, foam beds & adjustable beds. Their site will find a dealer near you.
You may think I'm nuts, but if something happened to my current waterbed setup today, I would go to great lengths to replace it with the same mattress & sack. I would probably get the basic platform for my bed from Craigslist, they are frequently listed by people who have no clue what they are practically giving away. But a good mattress is worth spending time & money on since we spend so much of our life sleeping. Not to mention that those of us on this forum value our sleep & our health.
Good luck & happy mattress hunting!
