Resmed P10 question

Post by JimP » Wed Nov 19, 2014 7:33 am

I'd like to give this mask a try but would like to ask if there are some practical limits to how much pressure you can use before issues appear. Issues such as being forced to breath out your mouth, mask moving, etc.

I currently use a Respironics Amara full face mask and would like to find something a bit less bulky that still works for me. My RX pressures were 10 and 16 with biflex of 3. I'm currently using autobipap which will sometimes get up to 7 and 14 for 45 minutes and the rest of the time much less.

Thanks in advance

i can only speak for myself. I am running my P10 with a 10 cmH2O setting daily and love it. I have played with setting it at 12, just to see what it feels like, without problems. Coming from a FFM, I would recommend purchasing a chinstrap at the same time that you buy your first nasal pillow mask. It's better to have one and not need it rather than trying to come up with a work-around while you wait for one to be delivered. If pressure and leaks are a concern then the Mirage Swift II seems to be the puppy for that. It was the first nasal pillow mask I bought based on a dealers review. It was touted as being able to be used at higher pressures. Boy!, they weren't wrong. The headgear on the Swift II can be cinched down tight enough to inflate a tire. Some dealers offer a return option on certain items at the time of the sale. Selection of a induction device is a very personal thing. What one person likes may not be another's cup of tea. Good Luck and keep posting about your experiences.

I can't talk to the P10, but my Switch FX (which I think the P10 is based on) handles that range of pressue. Mine S9 is set to 9-15 and i get along quite nicely. Of course that is the Swift FX. I am sure others with the P10 will chime in.

I routinely see pressures ranging from 9 to over 20 cm with my P10...no issues.
My tongue keeps the air from entering my mouth and the nasal pillows don't go flying across the room when I hit 22 cm.. They stay right where they are supposed to stay and I sleep through those pressure changes and never know they happen until I see a report.
I am also using a bilevel machine but a little different bilevel than yours. Big pressure changes happen often for me and I sleep right through them.
My only real issue (if you can call it an issue) with the P10 is that sometimes the back lower strap will slide up the back of my head on a rare occasion and that's a very minor infrequent issue which is totally unrelated to pressures used.
I woke up this morning with the lower back strap pretty much on top of my head...nasal pillows were still in place though.

The P10 works fine with my Ipap 15 / Epap 11. It stays in place better for me than the N10 that sometimes I rotate with the P10. My complaint with the N10 is the face marks stay hours and the vent would blow in my eyes. The P10 headgear is amazingly light, doesn't mash on your hair as much as the others, leaves very light marks that probably I'm the only one that can see and the vent is hardly noticeable.

I just got a ResMed P10 and I was wondering how often the people using this mask replace the Pillows cushion?

I started using the P10 in mid Jan of this year...just last month replaced the original nasal pillow that I have used every single night since I started using this mask. So 9 months of continuous use...cleaning was minimal effort..was a once a week or so quick wash and rinse. Nothing special. YMMV though. I have always got months of out of any nasal pillow that I have used. Other people may find that nasal pillows get tired much sooner...there are no hard fast rules as to nasal pillow life.

The expected life has a lot to do with oils from the face in contact with the cushion. Also the type of cleaner you use will/may break them down quicker as well.
