sleepyhead recovery from backup files?

Post by IreneN » Sat Nov 01, 2014 12:41 am

I've been having computer problems and was putzing around with stuff... Now I'm on a new computer, and, suffice it to say, I've screwed up my Sleepyhead data, such that there are gaps in the data. I've used two different cpaps during this time, and all of the data for the PRS1 Auto is actually in the "Backup" folder in the "p0" subfolder shown in the tree below...

Image

When I ask it to import the data, it needs to point to some higher up point in the tree. I've tried various points, but can't seem to hit the sweet spot.

Similarly for the ResMed S9 Auto, the data is there...

My thought is to create a new profile and import, but I'm lost ... Maybe Jedimark or Palerider or other geniuses are around and could give me a clue...

I'm going to see my sleep doc next week, and would like to have this all back together for him...he was pretty impressed last time I showed him.

I've not messed with the various files directories yet.. but can't you just restore from a backup?
Current Settings PS 4.0 over 10.6-18.0 (cmH2O) - Resmed S9 VPAP Auto w/h5i Humidifier - Quattro Air FFM
TNET Sleep Resource Pages - CPAP Machine Database
Put your equip in your Signature - SleepyHead v1.0.0-beta-1

I've only used a single PRS1 machine, but since the manual import process tells you to select the folder that contains the "P-series" folder as your source you should be able to just import from either/both of the folders called "backup" from your screenshots. Maybe you need to copy them out to a separate place, then import one by one manually into a new profile?

The FIRST thing you need to so is whatever you do make a copy of this folder structure somewhere to preserve it, especially since the cat ate the other backup The go buy an external drive and back up your files!

To interject a little mac commercial here (well if you are having computer problems you might be in the market for a new machine, right? ) the built-in mac backup is Time Machine, and it is really good at keeping snapshots of files as they appeared at dates in the past. Now in order to have really complete backups it's necessary to have a backup disk much larger than your computer disk, and buy a new disk when your backup fills up, but disks are cheap.

Time Machine has totally saved my butt on several occasions. I can't imagine how Windows users manage without it...

I am sort of lost as to what exactly is in that P0 folder where you have the backups...is it just the 3 file types or something else?

Normally SleepyHead will import from P-Series folder on the desktop as long as the sub structure mimics the SD card P-Series contents.

I assume you have tried pointing to the P-Series folder for the import and that failed?
If that failed then if it were me I would create a new P-Series folder on my desktop and then recreate the SD card contents within that folder and try to import again with the newly created P-Series folder as the source.
Must contain the hyphen...I tried for half a day with the folder called P Series and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work.

I have no idea how to go about doing the same thing with the S9 data though beyond pulling it from the Backup folder that SleepyHead makes. I have done what you are wanting to do with a PR S1 machine data but not with S9.

Well, as to backups, I am always fully backed up. All my data files are automatically copied to Dropbox, and I have a full backup on an external hard drive. What I didn't have was exact copies of the SD card like some people keep.

As to the other import manually suggestion, believe me, I've tried probably a hundred different ways of doing it. Nothing worked. Kept giving me messages that the data was already up to date. The problem was, was that a chunk of about a month and a half of data in the middle was missing.

A million thanks to Palerider who figured it out! I'm all back with all my data intact.

I don't think it's really a secret, but would suggest you be fully backed up (at least the sleepyhead data part of things)...there's an option in the top menu under "Data" that is "Rebuild CPAP data" and POOF it's all back.

Palerider is my hero!!!

What happens is that SH reads the sd cards, and copies the data into the backup dirs, as of 0.9.8, it also backs up the prs1 data in raw form. then it extracts the bits that it needs, does calculations and such and saves that it it's own format, for quick display and browsing.

if you upgrade the version, or maybe even move things around in the SH folder, (or maybe some lingering bugs) then SH doesn't see all it's own data properly and you get weirdness in the charts.

Irene couldn't import the data again, because SH already thought it had imported that data, so it wasn't doing it again, she'd have had to wipe out the SH processed data and done an import.

the answer is the data/rebuild that she mentioned off the top menu, that pretty much does a wipe of the processed data and rebuilds it from the backup dirs. it's been much much improved in the 0.9.8-1 verison, i've had to rebuild my data dozens of times... (it's like that when you say "this looks funny" mark says "ok, I made a fix, recompile" "do I have to rebuild my data" "yes" several times a night )

I'm just SO glad that fixed it for you, Irene, so you've got your data to take in to the doc!
