He is referring me to cardiologist to have further testing since it's been over 10 years since I had all that checked, at that time for just chest pain, four years before being put on CPAP. Again, was just looking to see if anyone else experienced shortness of breath after removing CPAP as NO one ever told me about different pressures. I just know it reads 80 degrees after turning on and is set to ramp up to whatever "pressure" is. It has always seemed okay to me. But not being able to drive because I don't know when the dizziness will hit (and def. don't have Vertigo according to that specialist) and I have actually drifted to left side of street and scraped curb. So I just don't drive. I told him today that when I get dizzy I seem to hit the left wall in the hall without even realizing I'm doing it. But the "elephant" sitting on my chest out of the blue scares me and my regular MD just doesn't get it and how scary it is. But when you're on Medicare, it's hard to find drs. willing to take you on. First experience with trying any type of chat room or whatever this is so excuse me if I'm kinda ignorant about how actually answers questions or relates similar experiences. Just glad I've got Neur. willing to see this through w/me.
The pressure should be displayed in the LCD screen once it gets there.

In the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that sometimes I feel pain in my chest at night and morning when I use it. At first I thought it was my heart, but last night, the pain radiated from the center of my chest to the right and left and through my back. I think it is my lungs. It was very intense, and made me feel short of breath. I took off the C-PAP and now, a couple of hours later, the pain has subsided but not disappeard, and I feel I am breathing better. (I did NOT AT ALL have lung pain OR shortness of breath before I started using the C-PAP.) I will call my pulmonary doctor today, of course, but I am wondering if others who are actually using the C-PAP have experienced this? I am hoping it is just set too high, but all of this has made me wonder if the lungs can, with long-term use, become dependant on the C-PAP to function correctly, and/or if the C-PAP can actually prompt lung collapse or other lung problems? Anyone had this experience? Anyone know anything about long-term C-PAP use? Thanks.
I just quoted and responded to another post regarding chest pain and bronchitis but left something out. I believe because I still have a tendency to try to snore, when I open my mouth and get the suction from the machine it's causing air to get into my lungs and chest. I have had 3 cases of bronchitis since I started using the CPAP machine. I will talk to my doctors and see if I can get the mask or another device that can protect me from having the air get into my chest and lungs. Good luck to you.

Some chest pain can be expected when first beginning therapy, but shortness of breath or more serious symptoms are probably a result of too high of an inspiratory pressure, creating a very high pressure support between IPAP/EPAP, and thus your received tidal volume is too high for your ideal body weight.

You want to prevent air from getting into your lungs? Really?

Don't hold your breath waiting for a doctor to help you.

You need to address each feature of your therapy individually for a short time (week or so) to see what makes a difference. If one part of your pressure settings are too high or low, then it can be changed, or if how you sleep (position), or if you mouth breathe, etc. need changing, then those need to be tried, but I doubt very much if you really want to no longer have air get into your lungs!

Well there are no questions at this point, But I will start using a CPAP next week, This is a very scarey thing for me, I was on life support with lung infections ,, less than two years ago,,, And I was told this week,to keep from having heart disease I needed to treat the Sleep Apnea I was having, Well I have only used it one night and noticed the soreness, even though it is slight,,,,,in my chest, my bp and other vitals are perfect, But all this information saying it can cause lung infections, it can cause heart problems I dont know if the CPAP is what I need,,,, Its scarey when you see all this negative input about something like this,,,

Absolutely UNTRUE!
NOT using it can exacerbate heart problems.

You're just trying to talk yourself out of using it and are grabbing for straws for reasons not to.

CPAP doesn't "FORCE" air into your lungs. It helps to keep your nasal passages or throat open so you are able to breathe at night like you do during the daytime.

And it doesn't cause infections. There may be the odd person who initially cranks up the humidifier thinking they must because it's 'therapy', and proceeds to give themselves cold and congestion, but then they may well do it in very humid local conditions when there's no need at all for it, so it's important to keep in mind that it's a convenient facilitator to cpap when needed (cold dry conditions in winter or just dryness anywhere), but can be turned right off if it makes sense to do that.

i had stiffness in my chest the first few days. I could feel it during the day and while I was breathing fine and not out of breath, I was conscious of my breathing during the day. By day 4 the stiffness got worse toward bedtime and I had a burning sensation in the middle of my chest. To be safe I went to the ER. Long story short, after blood tests, EKG, and some other stuff I was fine. The Dr. said I was perfectly healthy. The burning sensation was heartburn. He thought my chest stiffness was part muscle fatigue but mostly anxiety. They gave me something for the heartburn and everything got better. I got some good advice here to help the next day. I was thinking too much about breathing on the machine and not just relaxing and going with it. The next night I took that advice, relaxed, breathed normal, and had no discomfort in my chest the next day or since. The Dr. did say that although I was fine, I did the right thing going in because the symptoms were similar to a heart issue.
