2nd Night Better but...

Post by SleepySeoul » Wed Oct 29, 2014 7:13 pm

Hi All, Night 2 in this journey and after taping my mouth shut (yes I thought that was the most bizarre thing ever) it seems to have worked, no "blow-outs" last night. I slept 6 hrs continuously and then another 2.5. Woke up and ran the smartcode and Devilbiss told me that I had a AHI of 6 last night (far cry from 39 in my sleep test). I don't feel as "awesome" as I thought I would given that data though. I had this vision that I would strap on this magical machine and I would instantly feel awesome after the first night. In your experience how long did it take to notice a difference after starting your therapy?

Also there is a small capped port on the end of my nasal mask right before the hose attachment, does anyone know what that's for?

I will be having my second night tonight, so I can't answer your first question. I can't answer your question about your mask either since I don't see what equipment you have. Did you enter that into your profile?

I think you are using a nasal pillow mask but I don't know which one and there's a bunch of them out there.
Sounds like it might be a port for bleeding in an O2 line but that's just a guess without knowing exactly which mask.

That over night miracle you were hoping for? It takes as long as it takes...some get it quickly...some get it after a short amount of time....some get it after a long amount of time and unfortunately some never get it. There's so much more to feeling the "miracle" than the AHI number (which by the way we like to see below 5.0).
There's hours of sleep...and are those hours fragmented by very many awakenings and there's meds that might impact how we feel...and there's a big long list of other reasons we might not feel the miracle.

Patience...you didn't get this way overnight and it's a very rare person that can get it fixed overnight.

I misspoke in my original post, I'm using a nasal mask, not the pillow type. I have a pic of the port but can't figure out how to upload.

Appreciate the reply and your advice about being patient. I realize it may take a while. Also I may have another break-in period when I get my personal machine since the machine I am using now is just a loaner from my doctor to see if I can adapt to CPAP therapy.

If you could tell me the name of the mask I could go look it up but I suspect it is for the oxygen to be bled in.

Otherwise...you can post images.
Screen shot thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=81072&p=737779#p737779
same way we post screen shots of our reports.
Won't hurt you to learn how anyway...once you get your S9 you might want to post your reports.

upload the pic to imgur.com and post the link, or just tell us what make and model of mask it is.

Thanks all, unfortunately my company blocks all image hosting sites (something about wanted productivity or something). Will have to play with the image uploading at home.

Some masks have a port for people to use if they need supplemental oxygen.

Thanks All, well 3rd night and only got about 5.5 hrs sleep with an AHI of 8.5. Still struggling with the mouth blowouts even with tape. woke up at 2:30am feeling like I ate a bale of cotton. I am going back to the docs today to get a FF mask to see what that does for me...

After 2 nights with the FF mask got an AHI of 4.5. Needed to tape my mouth even with the FF mask, any risks in doing this? I have this vision of severe congestion blocking my nose up while sleeping and since my mouth is taped up the scene ends badly.
