Any new opinions if the SoClean 2 type cleaners really work?

Post by ribman » Tue Oct 28, 2014 3:32 pm

There has been a lot of opinions on if these machines are for real and actually work to eliminate germs, assuming you wash the CPAP masks, hoses and water tanks as recommended by their manufacturers.

Does anyone want to share an opinion on if these work?

I'm sure they work...but...if you are going to regularly wash your mask, hose, and water tanks, why do you need the expense of the SoClean. The "germs" are your own...no one else uses the equipment. I've never used the product nor have I ever seen the product...This is my opinion...I never clean my hose...I rarely clean my mask or tank. I always use distilled water. I have not gotten sick in the 6 years I have been on CPAP.

I just purchased a SoClean 2. I will use the SoClean 2 to clean the machine and hoses, masks and water tank daily. I will also wipe the mask daily with CPAP wipes, and also wash same weekly with Dove soap. I have a low tolerance for sinus infection.

A good friend told me Ozone is absolutely effective for this purpose of cleaning CPAP. devises, masks, hoses, reservoirs . IThis same technology is being used in hospitals and medical device companies to sterilize plastic. My friend graduated the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) where his undergraduate thesis was on phase transitions in liquid crystals. In 1982 he received his MS and Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University after explaining the physics behind the normal-superconducting transition and sub-harmonic energy gap in point contact junctions. He had a major role in the AT&T Lab and also the Bell Lab. As to those people that are too narrow minded on technology, take a hike!

Ozone can kill germs in many cases. It can also damage plastics and rubber. The question is if this device generates a correct level to kill germs without damaging the CPAP equipment.

I'm skeptical.

Before we claim it's approved by some scientific expert, let's see a peer reviewed study.

But can he effectly fill a rat hole with sand. Jim

A small nuke will kill germs on cpap equiptment, but is it truly the best necessary option, or can it be done as well cheaper. Jim

but there's unsocleaned air out there! I might breath in a germ and die without the soclean to clean the air...

oh, wait, it doesn't do that anyway.

After reading "ribman's response", I mentally asked myself "I'll bet Jim will jump in here"!

Mamma didn't go fer no book-learnin'

A while back, I also pondered the So Clean 2... but I also realized my cleaning methods were adequate. Seems there is always something "to buy" in the cpap arena. I have to wait out the urge to pounce on any new product when it first comes out. Good products like padacheek have proven their value. To me, the jury is still out on the So Clean and I ask myself if I need to do a better job? Like Lsat stated, I do ok with my cleaning regime.

OMG...I think my head's about to explode. I read that 3 times (napping between each reading, I'm just a dumb trucker) and STILL have no freakin' idea what it means. In layman's terms...your friend is smart, went to school...and something about 88mph in a DeLorean. Yeah?

translated, it means absolutely nothing about cpaps, or cleaning them...

most PhDs I've known could barely tie their shoe laces without help, and had spent so much brain power learning everything possible in their field that they were utterly hopeless at anything OUTSIDE their field.

there have been a couple exceptions.

I wondered what kind of "friend' knew all these words!? I'm thinking "friend" and poster are 'one and the same", just as in highschool ;0) This being said, I envy the brain behind these studies, and the ability of the person who can write this ;0)

TFF! At work, whenever I encounter a Ph.D., that tells me I'm probably going to have to explain things really carefully.
