Blue cross actually paid up!
After getting the run around from my local DME about getting an ASV machine back in November, i took some advice I got here and just ordered an 'open box' machine from Secondwind CPAP. After using it for 30 days, I took the SIM card to my sleep doc and asked him to write a letter saying that I was u...

Re: Nasal septum perforation from OTC Nasacort
I used Nasonex seasonally for years. I started developing cataracts at age 45 and had corrective surgery at age 49. There is no way to prove it but I think there was a connection. The surgery turned out great an don't really have any regrets about using the steroids, but there take-away lesson is th...

Re: CHEATING ON A SLEEP STUDY
There are certainly patents out there that use a pressure transducer to detect snoring. Here is one by ResMed. http://www.google.com/patents/US6705315 There are several others patents by resmed including one that compare the 'sounds' of inspiration and expiration to detect snoring. https://patentsco...

Most speakers can be used as microphones, so the term "Two way microphone" isn't completely wrong.
Is it the flow sensor or pressure sensor that detects snoring, or are pressure and flow detected by the same sensor?

Re: Need a Little Help With Periodic Breathing
I am really wondering why you are not on ASV. The prices of the machines have come down significantly. Where the cost should not be a major factor for the insurance company. You have demonstrated that BiPAP is not effective, ASV is the next medical step.

Re: CPAP infrared blinking
It is not ‘heat’ if you are seeing it with a normal (visible light) camera that has extended IR range. Most electronic cameras are sensitive to near IR; you actually have to put special filters in them to keep them from being sensitive to near IR. These cameras will pick up signals from Infrared rem...

I buddy of mine barerly escaped a house fire. His He managed to grab a pair of undies and his wallet before getting out. His neighbor brought him some clothes after calling the fire department. He said he really wished he had grabbed his car keys and cell phone as well.

Re: OT: Shingles vaccine hoopla
3.8% unvaccinated people got shingles in the trial. The trial only lasted a couple of years. Over a lifetime that number could easily be 33% (1 in 3 people). Getting the vaccine halves the risk. What does the shot cost, $200? $250? It is up to you to decide. It is also possible that getting the vacc...

Re: Hospitals are NOT prepared for xPAP...
I guess it depends on the Hospital. I had no trouble getting my dad's CPAP machine to him when he was in the hospital last year. The security guard at the ER knew what it was and did not give it a second look. When we took my mother in law to the ER a couple of years ago we were told to bring her me...

Re: Got my new 960 ASV blower unit
I am curious what the symptoms were. I think I may have some humidifier issues with my 960 as well. My humidifier does not use a lot of water, much less than 1/4 of a tank per night. It is turned all the way up. It does not seem to be causing any problems, and my pressure and flow rate are very low,...

Also, a burst of short centrals is fairly common when you are transitioning from awake to asleep. It is your brain trying to figure out which part of it has breathing duty. It is not though to be harmful.

Re: decreasing pressure improved AHI
It is quite possible that the higher pressure was triggering central or complex apneas. With complex apnea, you can have a central apnea with a closed airway. You are basically holding your breath in your sleep. If your machine sees an apnea with a closed airway, it responds by increase pressure. Th...
