New CPAP user

Post by pjm2014 » Fri Oct 17, 2014 8:48 am

Hi All,

First thanks to everyone that has contributed to this board. It has helped me during my first month of CPAP use.

I have the Resmed S9 Escape Auto. I was prescribed for a pressure setting of 10 after a sleep study and have been using this for the past month with improved sleep results. I occasionally have some apnea events that I experience because I wake up occasionally. I changed the settings to APAP with at range from 8-15 2 days ago the range displayed on the device was 10.5 and 11 on the two mornings. I downloaded the sleepyhead software and it says my device is bricked. I called my CPAP supplier and he stated this machine should show the AHI stats and I should be using the resmed rescan software. Can someone send me a link so I can download?

Thanks
Paul

your device records almost no useful data, you should force them to exchange it for an autoset.

AHI and average pressure (or 95% pressure as I forget which) is the sum total of the data that the S9 Escape will offer you even with ResScan which if you go here you will see how to obtain ResScan.

http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread ... -available

You don't get leak data...you don't get event category breakdown to see what type of events you are having...it doesn't flag centrals...it uses an older and inferior algorithm to decide what pressures to give you.
The data on it is extremely limited.
Without leak data you don't know if a nice low AHI is because you have great therapy or leaks were bad and the machine as clueless because if leaks are really bad the machine can't sense anything.
Centrals are important to know if they are happening...

Now if you are sleeping wonderfully...feeling great...it may not be that big of a deal to you but without more comprehensive data if you are having problems we can only guess at what is going on.

The S9 Escape Auto isn't a total brick since it offers AHI and pressure...SleepyHead can't do anything with it because it lacks some files that are needed to do calculations. ResScan will work with it and show usage..AHI and pressure....no graphs of any kind. Summary numbers only.

I would be pitching a hissy fit myself.
But if you are feeling like superman/superwoman...that missing data may not be all that critical to you but if you have problems in the future ....no way to maybe figure out what is going on and what you will be told is "let's get another sleep study to see what's happening"...

They gave you the half assed brick because it cost less wholesale and they made more money off of it.
See this blog..be sure to read the "help I am stuck with a brick" section
http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/

Leak data alone is critical IMHO. Without it we can't verify that the AHI is even correct.
Not to mention the other stuff that is missing and the inferior older algorithm used.

Thanks Pugsy and palerider for your responses and your insight. I now have a S9 Autoset after trading in my S9 Escape. My DME at first balked at it but then said OK. Now I am ready to do some data mining

Good job.

Now don't forget to change your equipment, when you have time, in your profile or you will have us all confused again.

PJM,

You will have to let the rest of us know how you managed to pry an Autoset from a DME once they gave you an Escape?

The Escape Auto machine actually does record quite a bit of useful data vs. a "compliance only" brick. However, the AutoSet records a LOT more useful data.

The Escape Auto does at least record AHI averages and a few other things, which is useful. It is useful to get the software and analyze the data it does record.

I do recommend a fully data capable machine such as the AutoSet.

I have one of each and use the Escape Auto as my travel/backup machine. it is a very cost effective way to have a backup as "bricks" don't have the resale strength of the Autoset.
