Need Mask Help
Need Mask Help
I am new to cpap and trying mask. I have a Comfortgel mask right now that has a lot of air noise compared to the F10 mask I tried. Is this normal? It has a lot of air coming from the vent where the hose attaches.

Re: Need Mask Help
It's normal, but sounds like excessive leaking. I had excessive noise when I started cpap, and started using mask liners... no more noise. Sources for liners are Pad-A-Cheek at http://www.padacheek.com and RemZzzs at https://www.cpap.com or from most DMEs.
In addition to taming the leaks, liners also absorb facial oils that prevent a good seal. I use the F10, and rarely have leaks that make noise or wake me up.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.
Re: Need Mask Help
Different masks have different levels of noise in terms of the vent noise. It probably is just normal venting noise as long as you are sure that's the only place it is coming from. The AirFit is a newer mask and it seems like newer also is a bit more quiet when compared to older style masks.

Re: Need Mask Help
My wife has suddenly become very sensitive to my mask vent noise. I have recently been switching from the F10 and the Fitlife Total Face mask (the mask that looks like a fireman's mask). She thinks the vent on the Total Face mask is louder which is probably right, since it has a larger surface area to remove the co2. I have gone back to my "old love" - the Total Face mask. I guess I'm of the romantic-type. Don't know why she has put up with me.
To answer your question: yes different masks have different vent rates and noise levels. Be sure to change the "mask type" on Resmed machines when switching from full face to nasal to pillows. It will affect the required vent rates and accommodate for them.
