well, since you're making us guess what machine you're talking about, I'll just guess... "probably not".

Since you are new to this forum, you will get better answers if you show your equipment (see 3 below).

Unless you change something on the card, taking it out and putting it back is likely to not do anything stressful.
Unless: you take it out really soon after turning off your machine or take it out while you are still masked up. Then taking it out and putting it back may have the effect of damaging some of the data files on the card and require a reformat of the card and loss of some of the data. Respironics machines are more tolerant of changes on the card than ResMed machines. For other manufacturers, I have not seen postings on this issue.

Here are some helpful things to do:

1. Get a copy of your sleep study and your sleep titration study. They have interesting information that will help in understanding your therapy

2. Get a copy of your prescription for your own records. It will be necessary if you choose to change DME's or order online

3. Post your equipment. There is a link on how to do this in my signature block below. Please select TEXT as a display choice as many CPAP machines and masks appear similar but are significantly different. To identify your machine correctly, it’s a good idea to click on Preview before clicking on Submit after you have selected your equipment. Then in the Preview pane, right click on each piece of equipment you have selected to look at it in another window. Check to see if the equipment shown looks like what you have. If it doesn’t, go back and make a different selection. When it all correctly displayed, then click on Submit and your equipment is selected.

The model number of your CPAP machine is on the bottom of the blower unit for Respironics machines (remember to remove the humidifier tank BEFORE looking) and appears as DSxxx or REFxxx where the xxx is the model number. On ResMed machines, the model description is on the top of the machine near to the big knob.

4. If you need to post images of your reports, there is a link in my signature block on how to post using PhotoBucket.com

5. While the LCD display is somewhat useful, it is better to use one of the reporting software programs to get detailed information on your therapy.
The two available for Respironics machines are: Encore (Basic or Pro) and SleepyHead.
If you have a ResMed machine, the SleepyHead and ResScan are the programs of choice.

Welcome.

If the CPAP machine is turned off, taking the card out shouldn't damage it, as long as you wait a minute or so after turning the machine off before removing the card.

If you put the card into a Windows 8.1, Windows will mess with the card. Most CPAP machines other than ResMed won't be bothered by this, but ResMed S9 machines will then refuse to use the card until after you let the machine format the card and erase the old data.

You can prevent this on SD cards by putting the write protect tab into the lock position before putting it into the Windows machine. Be sure and switch the card out of the lock position before putting it back into the machine.
