O.T....laser hair removal ideas request

Post by Pugsy » Sat Oct 25, 2014 11:47 am

I am wanting to permanently remove very annoying post menopausal whiskers.
Wondering if anyone here has had experience with the various laser treatments available. Mainly the home units and not going to the doctor for them.
I do understand the skin and hair color limitations to laser treatment. 99% of my unwanted whiskers are black and I am fair skinned so I should be good there.
These little buggers have deep roots and they are horribly annoying and stiff. I want them gone permanently.
So ladies...have any of you had a similar issue and fixed it? If so, with what?

I know they are pricey but at this point I am ready to buy myself an early Christmas present.
Tweezing is something I want to stop doing. The little bastards don't pull out easily and break off and the stubble drives me nuts. Mainly chin and upper lip area. I don't really care that much about other areas as with age those follicles are fading away and coming back in my chin an inch deeper.

Right now looking at the latest and greatest Tria 4X and yes...very expensive but a couple of doctor laser therapy treatment or those specialty skin treatment center costs and it is paid for. Reviews for the most part are very good and as with anything out there always someone who doesn't end up happy.

Or does someone have one that worked so great they no longer need it and wants to sell it?

I donno, Pugsy. I tweeze the lovely ones on my chin and use an electric razor on my upper lip every few days. I don't find it a big deal. I use a magnifying mirror and find that makes a difference. Laser is expensive and I haven't heard great results... in the commercials maybe, but that's about it. I'd rather spend my money on a little plastic surgery to tack up the hanging skin on my neck.

Pugsy, I have had electrolysis done on my face. I didn't react too well to the experimental laser patch she did on my arm so I opted for electrolysis. Not very comfortable, good results though. I don't have any experience with the home versions of laser hair removal. I'll be curious about what you select and your results.

I did think about electrolysis but again...that's multiple trips to the city where I could get that done and not cheap and I hate going to the city. Plus I am getting more of the little buggers as time goes on....I want to kill them at home.

Julie I have looked at the No No but it basically doesn't get deep down and mainly burns the hairs off as it's main removal source is heat...that's why people smell burnt hair when they do it ...plus that little baby isn't cheap either.
If it was $50 I would have tried it but at $250...I wasn't willing to do the surface removal thing. I want deep removal thing.

I am going to do the laser thing...that I am sure of. Right now trying to decide the best laser option.
Latest and greatest and most expensive home treatment or cheaper alternative.
I don't think that an in office (doctor or one of those clinics) therapy will be an attractive option but I plan to call Monday and find out exact cost...plus factor in expense driving to the city for each treatment.

Also...a side benefit of DIYing it...hubby has some pesky black hairs showing up in and on his ears we could zap.

Wow, had no idea it was so expensive! For odd pop-ups I just use tiny scissors, but don't have those hard ones you do (yet, anyhow).

Hope you never get the little bastards... They go DEEP compared to the regular hairs. For a long time I just pulled them out with tweezers but I can only get them if they get long enough to get a really good grip because they are 25 times deeper than they stick out of the surface and the stubble getting to where I can get a good grip is driving me nuts and that's a short trip anyway. I swear I think they keep going deeper in an effort to hide from me.

When I say they are almost an inch below the surface...maybe I am exaggerating a little but not by much. They are tough little bastards.
I will let you all know how it works out with whatever I end up doing. I would say if I have success...would be a good indication of how well it works. If it doesn't work well....oh hell, like I always say...I always learn from my experiments...sometimes I learn it works well and sometimes I learn it wasn't such a good idea...but I always learn something.
This time it might be a real pricey lesson but you know what?...won't be the first time and I am sure won't be the last.

Arrghh! I typed in a reply, then hit some key by mistake, and it disappeared! Anyway, here goes again...

I did a series of five or six laser treatments by a licensed technician based at my hair salon. He was very highly recommended by all the stylists there (who all used him to do their pits!) as well as highly rated on Yelp. The multiple treatments are to catch the hairs in different stages of development in the follicle. And as you said, hair color is a huge factor. All the black hairs are gone now, and the remaining light hairs I grab up with an epilator every week or so (I can't see the light ones to tweeze them). What a pleasure! I used to have to deal with a fair amount of these "volunteer" hairs every day! I'm extremely pleased with the outcome.

I don't have any trust in the home units, because I don't think they work. Where I had it done, he had different types of lasers and picked one for me specifically. Toward the end of my series, he even had a new one that blew cold air as a comfort factor. It's far less painful than tweezing, especially when you consider that it's doing a bunch of hairs at once.

I highly recommend this procedure and wish I had it done years ago!

DO NOT waste your money on the NO NO hair removal system. It does not work and trying to get a refund is difficult.

I have had very good luck with an epi electric razor. At a high speed it grabs the hairs and yes, yanks them out. The electric razor I bought has both the regular razor and the epi razor so 2 for the price of one. Got it at Target. Only hurts a second and the results last a good month. When the hair grows back in it is soft and not stiff.

Get it done professionally. This is not a DIY project.
Turn the trips into mini holidays.

I have several little cusses that like to keep coming back.
Tweezing them is a new hobby for me, and they remind me of my mother,
who had them in the same places. Besides, you guys think you are cheap?

Pugsy.

Electrolysis done for long time creates what we here know as orange skin texture on your skin. It is true, a friend of mine used to have electrolysis for long time and yes her neck's skin became rough as an orange skin.

This same friend had professional laser made for her hair problems and voila it fixed it. Yes, it can be expensive but it works if done by a professional.

They need to use the right power, other way you will have endless sessions At the first place she tried they used a reduced power so it was taking more treatments, then she found a lady working at a small place (her own business) whom charged less and did the job on less sessions also.

I have also heard the No No is a NOOOOOOO don't buy it LOL

I just shave mine with a little battery-operated shaver. Been doing that for a long time because of a vision impairment. These days most of them are white and I can only find them by using a magnifying mirror and rubbing my hand across my chin, neck and cheeks. I've always hated the looks of those hairs on women's faces, and vowed when I was 30 that people wouldn't get to see me with long black hairs, and now I don't want them to see me with long white hairs either. I tweezed them until I couldn't see to do that anymore.
