JS,

As I previously mentioned, I had a home study test at the end of 2011 that I feel under reported the severity of my apnea because it assumed I was asleep for 7 hours and made the calculation of the AHI based on that fact. I wouldn't be at all surprised when I have my full scale study that the severity will be alot more.

So don't be surprised if that is what happens in your case. I just wanted to share that experience because you seem to be hoping that the full scale study will prove that you don't have apnea.

When getting your in lab sleep study, don't worry about breaking the wires etc. they are fairly sturdy, and not your responsibility. I knocked several of the wires loose during my sleep study, the tech just came in and re attached them. Your job is just to sleep. I would recommend taking that sleeping pill that is offered, as it is not natural to sleep with all of that crap attached to you. Good luck. Maybe you don't have apnea, but if you do, accept it and make peace with the equipment supplied. It is not the end of the world, and it could save you a boatload of medical problems down the road.

I am thinking perhaps I won't fall under the criteria for my company requiring the machine is all. I do understand that most people may have some form or sort of apnea events. So, I go with my mind and eyes wide open.

I certainly hope so, but your overall tone on this thread had been "I don't need this crap, why are they telling me I do?" Yes, most people have some form of apnea events, infrequently, sporadically throughout the night. Hence the absence of a diagnosis of sleep apnea if AHI is less than 5; you're considered "normal" whatever that is. If you average greater than 5 events per hour over the course of the night, congratulations, you have sleep apnea! Untreated, you may not feel crappy overall but rest assured your innards are taking note.

My AHI puts me in the mild to moderate category. I struggle with depression and occasional daytime sleepiness. Yes I work in healthcare, as a personal caregiver to the elderly and disabled. Some of my clients have apnea which they refuse to treat, and I can see their quality of life suffer for it. I also have a young child who depends solely on me, as her father is out of the picture and I have no other family able to help me (my father is currently living independently but his health issues, which include severe sleep apnea, prevent him from caring for her for any great length of time). I owe it to her to be as healthy as possible, and CPAP will enable me to do that by keeping my AHI low and giving a more restful nights sleep.

I look forward to hearing the results of your lab study and I wish you continue good health no matter the outcome.
