DIY Modify Nano Exhaust Venting?

Post by MyJanine » Fri Oct 24, 2014 9:59 am

Would it be reasonable to try a do-it-yourself modification to the exhaust venting on the Swift FX Nano? I have read hear that others complain about the exhaust being bothersome. Maybe some tape?
Thank You,
myjanine

You don't ever want to block the vent holes for the exhaust....those holes are blowing off excess carbon dioxide from when we exhale and if you block the holes then you end up rebreathing the same old air which gets a higher carbon dioxide level with every breath...not good and possible deadly.

Now if you could maybe fix up something that would just diffuse the air and not block its exit...it might work.
But no tape over any holes at all.
Or just move the bed linens so it doesn't bounce back into the face.

I agree, and I'm a DIY fanatic, If I can modify it I'll modify it, it doesn't always matter if I make it better either, that's objective, my need to create is what makes me do these things and some are better than others. I recently got a Samsung monitor made only for a desk, onto a wall arm, convincingly good looking and professional, all done in a workshop with some modified steel brackets

and my mask annoys me but I dare not touch it. it annoys me double in winter where the temperature gradient between mask air and room air is so much the air shifted can bounce back and hit your face and you are half asleep wondering "is my mask leaking" when it isn't- which of course also makes sure you don't sleep, instead you get up rearrange it (modify it) so it IS leaking, then you DEFINITELY don't sleep!!

best thing I did on that was wire up a small heater of small wattage, put a switch next to the bed, a big clumsy outdoor style plastic fronted switch so no amount of pawing of it half asleep would electrocute me, that triggers the heater, the heater brings the air to human temperatures, I tell myself my mask isn't leaking, and I sleep...

but the mask I don't touch, I'd not dare!

I wonder how part of one of the white filters would do as a diffuser... much like the F&P masks use a course filter like material in a snap on frame as a diffuser.

hopefully resmed will get on the boat, that stream of exhaust air is really annoying in so many ways. (and one of the things I really like about the p10.... and the q with it's diffuser stuck on.

I thought about that F & P diffuser thing but I had never seen one to get an idea just how porous it is.
I also thought about the white filter but the original filter that I can't find (to purchases) anymore that is porous and allows for washing it. I have both..one of those as well as the disposable white filters we buy.
Then I thought...how about one the old S8 porous filters. You may not have seen those but they would hold up to washing and were more porous so that I would think that the air exiting wouldn't be blocked but instead gently diffused.
I have one of those old S8 filters somewhere...need to find it and see if it as porous as I remember it being.
Fighting the stomach flu today so not feeling like digging in the boxes at the moment.

This appears to be similar material to the old S8 filters that have a white and blue side.

If it works on the Pilairo I would assume it would work on other masks but a person would have to be really careful to secure it without blocking the holes with whatever is used to secure it.

hmm, how to describe it...

it's this kind of random strand material, not a foam like the prs1 grey filters.

fairly fine, but nothing as fine as the s9 filters.
