My nasal pillow made my AHI drop vs full face mask

Post by Sleepysuz » Thu Oct 23, 2014 8:28 pm

My AHI has dropped from over 10 to 1 since I switched to nasal pillows. I think I was swallowing the air pressure and the mask was encouraging mouth breathing. Went from almost 100 OAs to 1-2 per night.
This has been consistent for the last 2 weeks. So excited about the success had to share it!

This site is tops. Has really helped me manage my apnea. Thanks to all who contribute!

Sometimes the key is comfort and fit.
Contrary to the Spartan school of thought.

Good going! I wish some of the sleep doctors would read your post. Most seem to push FF, in the beginning anyway. Mine did, but there was no way I was gonna use it. When she saw how I did during the compliance period, she was politely surprised and never mentioned it again.

I don't blame you. That is good news.

Glad to hear it's continuing. Any more thoughts on another potential sleep study? (I know, it's been such a short time)

The sleep study was going to cost me $800 copay even though I has met my deductible. Since I am feeling great and the clusters are gone I have decided not to bother unless there is a problem. In the meantime I will keep tracking data to see how it goes
If it wasn't for this site and the help from people like Den, Pugsy, Julie and others I would not have reviewed my SD card and would have thought I was getting the best results with my FFM.when i was eating air and not getting the pressure in my airway. While this would have been better than pre cpap, no where near as good as I feel now!

Yeah, I don't think I'd bother with it under those circumstances either.

Just out of curiosity, what settings are you currently using in your machine?

Wow. That's a major difference in AHI! Good for you for trying a different mask and not giving up.

My settings are 9.5 to 11.5. When I had the FFM 12 gave me aerophagia. Lower than 9 didn't go up fast enough to break the clustersa.
This setting range is working so I only have 1-2 OA events a night so I might try going in a lower to higher range now with the pillows. Or not. If it ain't broke you don't fix it.

This is a very informative result. I wonder how many other people have seen their AHI change because of nasal pillows?
