Question about Respironics BiPap S/T

Post by Floridian53 » Wed Oct 22, 2014 3:59 pm

I've posted on the forum before about the problem I suddenly started having with increased AHI. After looking at the data, the Sleep Doc and
the DME recommended a BiPap due to lots of centrals during the night.

After all the paperwork and insurance approval, etc. I finally received the machine yesterday. Used it last night, and it was quite strange
at first. They have it set to an inhale of 13, exhale 9, and if I don't breath for a minute it does something to stimulate breathing (not sure what,
but I'm sure you folks know how it does that).

So when I turned it on, it was like the inhale, exhale timing was not in sync with
my breathing...it just felt weird. But I left it on and fell asleep. I woke up once during the night to use the bathroom and when I put it on to go
back to sleep no more of the weird out of sync problem.

When I woke up this morning, same thing...I left it on for a few minutes after I woke, and it felt normal as to breathing out and in. Also
was amazed I managed to sleep 7 hours...haven't slept more than 4-5 hours for months. It doesn't have a readout, other than hours slept
but I'm to send the "card" in to them in 2 weeks to have sleep patterns evaluated.

So my questions, did this machine sync with me, did I sync with it, or am I just imagining the whole thing?

Thanks in advance for any "enlightenment" you could share on this experience.

You probably synced with the machine. It does a set thing to keep you breathing and you adjust to it.
That "card" that comes in the machine...is it a little SD card or a little smart card about the size of a credit card?
Most of those high end machines do have data and if it's a little SD card there's software that will work with it easily.
If it is one of those smart cards...they gave you a discontinued older model machine.
Does your machine have a model number on the bottom of the blower unit? 3 digits with maybe DS or REF in front or behind?

Hi Pugsy,

Thanks for the reply.

It has one of the little SD cards that holds data...same as I had on my CPAP...the numbers on the bottom are REF 106 1401
I have the Sleepy Head (I think that's the name) software downloaded. Will that work with this BiPap machine? My CPAP machine
gave out a lot of info on the info menu selection, AHI, etc. As I said, this one only has hours, but if the Sleepy Head works with
this card, I'll be able to take a look.

Also 2 weeks seems like a rather short time to send back the card to the DME but I imagine they have to record if it's working for me.

That reference number doesn't ring a bell but if you have a SD card give SleepyHead a try. I assume you have a PR System One machine then and I think SleepyHead works with all of those machines up to model 960.

If it won't....I can get you a copy of Encore that will work...just send me a private message if you want Encore.
