Re: Changing water
She always talks about rinsing the water reservoir with vodka. Maybe she found a way to distill that.

Re: Changing water
I just wait about three days and if there is any water left I tip it out and replace it. I've noticed that even with distilled water, I get a hard film developing on the bottom of the tank. This is easily fixed by pouring a little bit of vinegar into the tank and letting it sit for a couple of hours. The film virtually dissolves and it's easy to clean the tank of the S9
Re: Changing water
I was going to ask about this, so I'm glad I did a search and found that someone created this thread recently.
I had the lady that was bringing me my machine say I could change it every other day. Then I went to the sleep specialist and she told me that I should change it everyday. For a while, I was changing the water every other day. Now I'm filling it up to the max level and I'll usually dump it the next day. Sometimes I'll just go a second night and then change the water. My water is usually good for two nights.

MOTZZ,
That's certainly a safe regimen. I suspect if a properly study were done, they'd find that new users are more conscientious and old times get a little lax. We just learn what works. My humidifier is clearly exposed and I can monitor clarity and level easily.
Take care,
CN

Re: Changing water
Most of the year, I top off for 1 week to 10 days, then dump and wash out the humidifer. In the summer, I wash more frequently and let bin dry because of the influx of pink slime. Probably doesn't hurt me in the least, but has an eww reaction.

Yo! Dont be lazy and listen to other lazy guys out here. Change it every day.
1 - Dump old water
2 - Clean your tank
3 - Fill in new water
Simple yo and how much times does that take? Maybe 5 mins, unless you're lazy like some guys here!

Being lazy is not neccesarily the only reason for not doing something.

Re: Changing water
If you're not using distilled water, I recommend dumping the water every morning and cleaning it.

Re: Changing water
I recommend each person consider the quality of his or her water, and their personal needs for purity, and act accordingly.

Re: Changing water
I find the distilled water concept interesting and as I mentioned earlier I don't use it. I do, however, use a high quality filter as Gold Coast water does have a slightly chlorinated taste to it. I suspect the reason for manufacturers recommending distilled water is that it supposedly has no mineral content and therefore nothing that will coat the bottom of the machines water reservoir. This happens with my machine and I routinely give it a vinegar soak on a monthly basis. I'm due to do this very soon and I might buy some distilled water and see if it actually leaves any deposits behind. For those of you who do use distilled water, do you need to clean your water reservoir or is it deposit free?
Re: Changing water
Deposit free.
I love pickles but don't care for the stink of vinegar at all. It's just easier to pick up a gallon at WalMart which is the only grocery store in town now. If I used tap water I would end up spending more on vinegar than I would water. Plus dealing with the stink.
And yeah, I know I could maybe use something else but why bother if using distilled ends up being the cheaper choice for me and I don't have to do any special mineral deposit removal and deal with odors that I don't particularly care for.
Now those people who don't have a cheap source of distilled water...different story. Or maybe they think vinegar is the world's greatest smell... I can understand not using distilled. It's not the end of the world to not use distilled.
I have used tap water and in my case that is well water which tastes quite good because of all those lovely minerals in it but it doesn't take long for it to build up a cloudy crust of sorts on the sides and the bottom of the water chamber when I do use it. It just looks yucky and I don't like it looking that way. About a week of well water in the chamber and the plastic is a bit cloudy and starting to look yucky. Not everyone has the same level of minerals in their water though...some people might have water with minimal mineral content or they use some other sort of filter system on their water to remove some of the minerals.
If I had tap water with minimal minerals so that it didn't leave a crusty film on my water chamber..that's what I would use full time but I don't.
When I use distilled water the only "cleaning" I end up doing to the water chamber is maybe a once a month quick wash with hot soapy water. I just top the chamber off nightly otherwise. My water chamber looks as spotless as the day it was brand new every day whether I have done my monthly wash or not. I do the monthly (or thereabouts) hot soapy wash/rinse mainly for the "just in case something is wanting to grow in there" reason.
Now if I travel...which is very rare...I just use whatever water is handy and deal with any mineral build up when I get home if there is any.
Now is the presence of mineral build up a prime host for all sorts of nasty bugs to feed on and multiply? I dunno. Didn't take that chemistry class but don't particularly want to risk it...again just in case.
When I first started cpap therapy I religiously cleaned everything thoroughly every Sunday. That got old real fast. I have long since adapted my cleaning routine to suit my own personal preferences and needs. Works for me and I sleep just fine with my routine or mainly lack of routine. What someone else wants to do or not do so they can also sleep just fine...that's their personal choice.

Re: Changing water
I just add water - our well water, not distilled- to top of every day. If the bottom starts to fell like it has mineral deposits, I soak it in white vinegar for a while, rinse, and the its back in service. Now I do use the Res. Med dishwasherable tanks, so don’t know if that makes a difference. I’ve never had the scum that others have .
