Newbie and rainout

Post by Rowcuse » Wed Oct 22, 2014 11:00 am

Hi everyone:

First time on the board and I'm at wit's end. I've had my CPAP machine for about 4 months now and my only ongoing (and it's huge) issue is the rainout. I've read many posts here on the board regarding condensation in the tubing and various strategies to try and eliminate it. I've: 1. Lowered the machine position. 2. Purchased the aftermarket heated hose 3. Run the hose under the covers/pillow 4. Tried wrapping the hose with various insulators. 5. Lowered my humidity level to it's lowest setting.

I refuse to crank up the heat in the house/room, as I like it a little on the chilly side (not that a thermostat set at 63 is all that chilly).

Regardless of all of the above, I still have tons of moisture in the tubing and waking me at various points through the night. It's becoming maddening at this point. Any thoughts or suggestions from those who have been down this road before would be greatly appreciated.

Which after market heated hose did you purchase?

Did you get the Respironics 60 series heated hose adapter kit or a heated hose from a totally different brand that is a stand alone heated hose.

What are you using to insulate the hose? Not all hose cozies are created equal..some are better than others.
Have you used insulation with the heated hose?

I purchased the 60 series aftermarket kit which included the new humidifier lid and hose. I've tried insulating it with both the Resmed Tubing wrap and a fleece blanket. It's been trial and error to this point, but I seem to be running out of suggestions via the internet.

Thanks,
Greg

I assume you have changed the hose temp with the 60 series heated hose to max of 5? I have to ask...the default is lower.
I used a 60 series heated hose last winter with my PR S1 760 machine with it set to 3 for humidity (max is 3) and 5 for air temp (that's the max) and my bedroom can get to the low 50s (set house thermostat to 50 at night and the bedroom has north and east windows and is poorly insulated) and I didn't have any rain out in hose or mask and no hose cozy.

Any chance of water still being in the hose from washing???

When you plugged the heated hose in...did the machine recognize it? I had a tiny bit of problem with that little bitty plug in for electric right inside the humidifier lid.
If the machine recognizes it then it defaults to where you get humidity and temp selection independent of each other.

Sounds like maybe the hose isn't heating like it should.

The way the heated hose works is that it starts with the room temperature and keeps adding degrees to the air temp based on the selection you make...with the max of 5 temp being 16 degrees added....at 60 degrees that would make the hose air temp 76 degrees and that should be enough..or it is for me even at max humidity.

I also converted my non heated hose humidifier to the heated hose humidifier with that little upgrade kit.
You did get the new power brick too??? Must have 80 watt power brick instead of the 60 watt.

I would start by confirming that the machine recognizes the heated hose by see it change in the setup menu to the different diameter hose and gives you the 2 separate options...first one for humidity (1 through 3)and the other for hose air temp (1 through 5).

Pugsy:

Thank you so much for the information. I think the problem lies in the fact that I didn't even know that the hose temp was adjustable. My machine recognizes the new heated hose and I'm using the 80 watt power supply. Time to figure out how to adjust the hose temp and see where that get's me.

Thanks again!
