Re: CPAP for colonoscopy, or is oxygen sufficient?
One thing to be aware of is what happens if you have a complication and need emergency surgery and/or hospitalization. I was filling out a survey about patient instructions and it was for colonoscopies -- they wanted patients to bring cpap machine and mask and stash it with their belongings, and the...

Yes -- they have the right to ask you to pay some reasonable amount per page to photocopy it, but they have to give it to you.Wulfman... wrote:According to everything I've heard and read, under the HIPAA laws, they HAVE to give you a copy of the sleep study results.

Re: Looking for some advice on the Amera View
Any chance that nose card thing would be to scale if I were to print it out? I hadn't seen one of those before. (And feel like I should have...) The sizing template is rather clever -- on the top of the page they show the outline of a credit card and a quarter. If they print out credit-card sized a...

Re: AHI 50, 15 yrs Apnea, a programmer wants to be able to work
Is this real or is this placebo effect, assuming he has normal oxygenation during the day? It was mentioned here that putting on a mask with a hose attached can make people feel like a jet pilot -- 'mission ready' and more concentrated. Hey, I'm not proud -- I'll take whatever benefits I can get, a...

Re: Looking for some advice on the Amera View
We called Respironics about this mask because 9 out of 10 were being returned for "bad fit" reasoning. After a brief in-service with Respironics, they recommended the following: 1) Whatever your nose measures, go one size LOWER 2) When placing the mask on, lean your face over your lap, place mask o...

Looking for some advice on the Amara View
Since I've lost so much weight my face has changed shape, and it's been an increasing struggle to keep my F10 on and sealed. So Friday I went to the DME and we went on a mask search. After trying a few things that didn't work, I tried the Amera View, and I really like it. There are a few things that...

Re: Pressure lowering due to weight loss ?
I've lost 115 lbs, and my AHI rose from about .3 to about 1.0. I develped aeophagia about 4 months into therapy, and lowered my pressure in an attempt to get less air in my digestive tract.

Re: AHI 50, 15 yrs Apnea, a programmer wants to be able to work
Well, you know you could just tell the doc that you use the machine when you nap... (I'm also a computer programmer. I worked out of my home for years, and during both pregnancies. At the end of my first, the OB told me that I should stay off my feet as much as possible. My husband carried a recline...

Re: Aerophagia
But - and this is where I'd love feedback - if I have a fixed PS machine and set my PS to 0 (as discussed above), with BiPAP settings on the Vauto mode...wouldn't that be like an auto-CPAP? (same pressure in and the same pressure out, but varying up and down within the IPAP and EPAP range). And how...

Re: lost the safety valve
Also, a note for everybody: this is why you need to keep one replacement ahead on every part of your system, and hold on to old not-so-worn-out parts for in-a-pinch backups. That way you don't have to go without breathing during the time it takes for the dme to get you a replacement if something bre...

Re: Aerophagia
If I understand this correctly, what's happening in aerophagia is that the pressure which is keeping your airway open and pushing air into your lungs is also opening up your esophageal valve and pushing air into your stomach. And that having this problem is completely a question of how strong that e...

Re: Equipment, Headgear and mask experiences
One of the more successful mods that I made was to cut apart my F10 size small headgear and safety-pinned it back together to make it smaller. I took out about an inch on the top strap and an inch-and-a-half on the back. I also put an old velcro-in shoulder pad on the inside back of the mask, which ...

Re: Running out of water during sleep
The amount of water used in one night depends on several variables, most of which are out of the control of the manufacturer. The amount of water used may not be in the control of the manufacturer, but the amount of water available in the tank is totally their decision. Having a tank which only las...

Re: Women with sleep apnea please reply
One thing to be aware of is that for most of us pregnancy (especially 1st and 3rd trimesters) means that we need way more sleep than when we are not pregnant. I was amazed at how I could sleep LOL! I would fall asleep on the couch at 2 or 3 o'clock, my husband would wake me up when he got home and w...

Re: Overnight train, riding coach, any recommendations?
While not as bad as BlackSpinner, when I dose off in a chair anything more than a quick light sleep has me waking up with that familiar I-just-had-a-bunch-of-apneas brain fog, so I'd rather not risk it. We are going out on Thursday night, staying in a hotel on Friday night, and coming back Saturday ...
