Great Outpatient Surgery Site

Post by 49er » Mon Oct 20, 2014 4:34 am

In doing research, I came upon this site which I feel is outstanding. You do have to register and it does require that you provide a name or a fake one but it is completely free.

http://www.outpatientsurgery.net/

I thought I had really covered everything when I was considering having a septoplasty earlier this year but one issue I wasn't aware of was hypothermia which can cause numerous problems. Since I am reconsidering having the septoplasty, that is now on my list of issues to cover.

Anyway, whether you are planning on having outpatient or inpatient surgery in the near future, I strongly recommend you visit this site so you know what questions to ask your surgeon or the anesthesiology department.

Did they say that hypothermia was a) very rare, and b) usually a familial/genetic problem? In other words, have any of your family experienced problems at surgery? If not, it's unlikely that you would (at least as far as hypothermia goes).

Hmm, I didn't sense it was that rare in my research and this site seems to support this:

http://www.anesthesiologynews.com/ViewA ... a_id=27379

I don't recall anyone in my family experiencing it but one person seemed to have traits that would have made her susceptible and I seem to be taking after her in many ways.

I do understand one can drive themselves crazy thinking of every possibility that could go wrong. But at the same time, I would rather be over informed that not informed enough.

I had septoplasty and my breathing is 1 million times better. Surgery Is always a risk. You have to decide if the outcome is worth it. Best of luck

Nasal turbinates are important organ to cool the body and the brain. If you indeed have nasal congestion caused by deviated septum, you may actually benefited from the cooler brain since brain are sensitive to high temperatures (more fatigue, etc).

Of course if your nasal airway is wide open there is no reason for septoplasty even if it was deviated.
