ResMed A10 time machine
ResMed A10 time machine
This morning I put my card in my computer and loaded data into Sleepyhead at 7:05am. The graphs are obviously funky, in that the data just stops 2 hours and 40 minutes before the end of each graph. And looking at the list of session files, there is a funky-looking session running from 7:53 to 8:46 with only an STR.edf file. At 7:05am!

Can my APAP tell me any really useful stuff from the future? Tomorrow's lottery numbers?
I rummaged around in the data files and can't find anything useful (to me anyway) to tell me what happened. The data files are time-stamped at 7:05, and this 7:53 to 8:46 ResMed session was in the files at 7:05. I notice that the display only shows PLD, BRP, SAD and EVE files for the current day -- and all of my previous information shows sessions with just STR.edf
This makes me kind of nervous -- can I really trust the data coming from the machine?

Any time new software is used with a new machine.....and things look weird.
Go verify with name brand software....ResScan in this case to see if it is the software that is whacko or the data that is whacko.

Re: ResMed A10 time machine
Every other time stamp is right on the money... I went to bed at 10:07, got up to go to the bathroom at 4:05 and got up at 6:05. Ok, I don't actually remember the 1:06-1:08 incident (when I woke up at 3:45 I was really psyched that I had been asleep until then with no bathroom break, and really didn't need to go. After being awake for 20 minutes my bladder did decide to wake up and I did need to go, so that's why I was turned off the machine for a few minutes then.) But, anyway, the clock on the Sleepyhead reports is right on with the clock on my computer, which is synched with the atomic clock in Colorado.palerider wrote:do you have it's clock set right?
Pugsy, can you point me in the direction of the ResScan software? After the reviews here, I was looking forward to not having to use it, but alas...
Re: ResMed A10 time machine
What is an atomic clock, where can I get one? Are they a radiation danger? Why would you sync with one rather calling date and time service on the phone?

just out of curiosity, how do you think you are syncing to one of the clocks in colorado?cathyf wrote:my computer, which is synched with the atomic clock in Colorado.palerider wrote:do you have it's clock set right?

Walmart has em.... the nice thing is it syncs the time every night and changes itself during the spring ahead and fall back times.lastlib wrote:What is an atomic clock, where can I get one? Are they a radiation danger? Why would you sync with one rather calling date and time service on the phone?
I have three and love em. Mine also tell what the day and date is also indoor/outdoor temps are real handy.
Re: ResMed A10 time machine
I thought that was where the NIST atomic clock was, but now reading this: http://tf.nist.gov/service/pdf/macintosh.pdf I know that the server machines are in Colorado but maybe the clock itself isn't.palerider wrote:just out of curiosity, how do you think you are syncing to one of the clocks in colorado?
Re: ResMed A10 time machine
there's a variety of clocks that nist has, and they're also tied in with the constellation that's overseen by the naval observatory in DC.cathyf wrote:I thought that was where the NIST atomic clock was, but now reading this: http://tf.nist.gov/service/pdf/macintosh.pdf I know that the server machines are in Colorado but maybe the clock itself isn't.palerider wrote:just out of curiosity, how do you think you are syncing to one of the clocks in colorado?
reading up on timekeeping, and NTP, and the fanaticism of horologists is quite interesting...

Re: ResMed A10 time machine
there have been bugs in older versions of SH where it wasn't tracking the time properly.cathyf wrote:Every other time stamp is right on the money... if you believe that's what's happening, then I suggest getting in touch with Mark, and sharing your data with him so that he can squish those bugs.
PM me, or him, for contact info. syncing your sd card on dropbox makes it easy for him to pull your data every day and hunt down bugs.

Re: ResMed A10 time machine
Pugsy sent me the link to the ResScan software, so I will install it and check for discrepancies before sucking anyone else in to this. I have had wonderful AHIs (below 1) from the beginning -- sure hope it is real!

The atomic clocks are great, but---
Look at a hand-held GPS for the most accurate time.
GPS uses extremely precise time measurements to calculate location.

you do realize that each of the satellite vehicles (or gps satellites as they're more commonly called) has an atomic clock in it, kept sync'd with the ground based cluster at the naval observatory?chunkyfrog wrote:The atomic clocks are great, but---

Re: ResMed A10 time machine
Way back when in my career in the U.S. Navy, I used to calibrate the atomic clocks that installed are on all of the submarines.
They are accurate to within 1 millionth of a second over 6 months
The NIST clocks are much more accurate
