Brand Spanking New and having issues
Recently discovered this community(yesterday) and have liked the support i have read so far... so I joined!
Though i hate coming in to a new community and whining, I am having some issues and would enjoy some feedback/suggestions. Just started on my machine 3 nights ago, and I am using (i believe) what everyone is calling the pillow. it goes around my face and then over the top of my head. I have the add-on humidifier with the unit, too.
so far, my biggest problem i am running in to is that i am a side-sleeper (sort half on my side, half on my stomach, really)and when i lay down it pushes the mask just slightly off my face. Not immediately but within about 30 minutes of sleeping. Which of course, wakes me up. My nose was REAL sore the first two nights; last night not as bad. But all of this adds up to about 3 hours with the machine and then i cant handle it anymore.
a slightly less important problem is my humidifier add-on deal does not "appear" to be working. It never feels like there is warm humidity coming out of it, and in the morning the water level looks virtually the same. Unless someone tells me otherwise, I already figured I will call the company i got it from to handle that, but it sure is annoying because my nose is already getting dried out. Oh! forgot to say, i am using the Philips respironics system one.
any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! just remember i am an absolute newb to all this, so I do not speak the language yet =) MANY THANKS!

Re: Brand Spanking New and having issues
Welcome to the community....
It would be helpful to you and others if you could give us the exact make and model number of the mask you are using?
Also, what setting in the dial is your humidifier set? If the humidifier is working a little blue light will appear to the left of the dial and when it first turns on a number will show up in white which tells you the setting on the humidifier. Is it possible that your humidifier is set to "0"?
I too am a newbie but have enjoyed getting feedback from the veterans, a great resource.

Welcome. Please sign up for an ID and enter your equipment in your profile. There's a link in my signature line on how to do this.
Take the water tank out of your machine so you don't spill water into the blower unit. Look on the bottom of the blower unit for a label with something like 560 REF. Tell us that number. We also need to know what mask you have.
Is it humid where you are? The PRS1 machines sense humidity and turn the heat down if the air is already humid enough. There's a way to make it ignore the air in the humidity, but it may not be a good idea. Crank the humidifier setting all the way to the right, run it for a while and then turn the machine off, open it up and (CAREFULLY) see if the plate under the water tank is hot.

Re: Brand Spanking New and having issues
Thanks, ya'll!
strange it posted me as a guest... i had already signed in. I guess it autologged out or something. Unsure of how to change the guest status, but THIS is me.
REF 460P is what i see on the bottom of the unit and I updated my equipment. Totally clueless on what "software" is but will work to figure that part out. Might be on the bottom of the unit, again.
Also, the setting is on 3 (yes, made sure last night it was not on 0). I was unaware of the unit's ability to sense humidity. that could be it? East Texas does have higher than normal humidity, being so near lakes and the coast.

Re: Brand Spanking New and having issues
The model 460 is the PR System One 60 Series Pro CPAP....that choice is available from your profile equipment menu selection.
Does your hose have a black end where it attaches to the humidifier? If so you have the heated hose. If not then just remember that there is an option to have a heated hose which might come in handy this winter.
The setting of 3 on the humidifier when not using the heated hose isn't going to use a lot of water if the ambient humidity where you live is already fairly high. When I use my machine and it's raining outside I use very little water even at maximum humidity setting.

Re: Brand Spanking New and having issues
Yes, i have it selected and filled out properly but it appears to be quite rude in not posting up on my footer. guess i will send a ticket in about it.
That for sure solves my humidifier questions... BUT... i am still in a quandry about my blasted pillow. it drives me nuts to not be able to sleep on my side! and more nuts when it starts shifting over

I believe it's because you've picked the wrong one, the equipment selection list is *very* confusing.Revanon wrote:Yes, i have it selected and filled out properly but it appears to be quite rude in not posting up on my footer.

Re: Brand Spanking New and having issues
If your nasal pillows are making your nose sore, you may have it adjusted too tight. It actually needs to be a little loose to allow the pillows to fill with air, if that makes sense. After my machine comes on I actually pull the pillows away from my nose a little to allow them to fill up, release, and then a perfect seal. I sleep on my side with my face turned into my pillow some but don't really have an issue with leaks. If your nose is terribly sore, you can use a tiny bit of Lansinoh cream, which is a lanolin cream that nursing mom's use.

Re: Brand Spanking New and having issues
thanks, palerider! I will double check that I have picked the correct one
and thank you, GaleM... I will try to do that. Interesting that you sleep on your side as well. you never have an issue with the whole unit sort of sliding to the side as you have your head on the (real) pillow?
I also like your lanolin cream idea. I think we still have some from my wife nursing, if it gets too bad

Re: Brand Spanking New and having issues
you need the one, as pugsy said, with '60 series' in the text.Revanon wrote:thanks, palerider! I will double check that I have picked the correct one
