leak but low AHI and new machine has 5 hours on it

Post by Tango » Mon Sep 22, 2014 2:38 pm

I have an airfit 10 mask and the new airsense 10 autoset.
last night i head a lot of air coming from my face mask. it actually started sometime the night before but i didnt notice it again til the early hours of this morning.
it appears the mask itself came loose from the hose. hopefully, i fixed it.
but, my question is.....how come my AHI was the lowest i ever recorded? 2.8. i was getting a lot of 3.0s
also, should a machine already have hours on it. my new airsense 10 has a few nights that were on when i didnt own it. Example, the first night i used it it said i was 1/3 in compliance.
so, there are 2 nights used when i didnt have it? it also says i have used it for 50 hours but it says 55 hours in the way back part of its memory. I have made a call to my DME. She cant give me any info except she took it out of the box brand new.
now, i love my new cpap, i have never had a machine work so well. i feel great with it. but, should i let the hours go and be happy with my new machine or reaquest a brand new one. one that i open the box for?

The S9 machines will continue to blow air at a low volume after the machine has been turned off. Usually around 45 minutes or so and while this blowing doesn't count for therapy hours it will count toward the run hours for the machine.
Resmed has done this with other past versions also. I would expect no different from the AirSense machines.
So unless you unplug the machine from the electric source when you turn it off I imagine that is why there is a discrepancy between therapy hours and run hours.
Nothing to worry about and as time goes along the discrepancy will grow.
Next time you take the mask off and/or turn the machine off put your hand in front of the mask and see if it is still blowing air but at a very low volume.
