Red Marks on Nose from Airfit P10

Post by Luthie2006 » Thu Sep 18, 2014 8:57 am

Good morning: I was wondering if anyone can chime in and help. I use the Airfit P10 nasal pillows, Medium. I also use a Res Med (white) chin strap. When I lay on my side (which seems to be best for my AHI numbers instead of my back) I have red marks that stay on my outside and inside of my nostril (not to mention nasal dryness). The red marks are painful. And I had to pull everything off last night. I use Vitamin E oil, to no help and wash it off before I put the pillows on. If I use that breast nipple cream (Lanosil, sp?) can I use that lotion on my nostril and use the silicone nasal pillows at the same time? Or is that cream bad for the silicone? Thank you so much.

Sounds like you may have the pillows too tight against the nares. I use the P10. I spread the straps up and down to the point that it almost feels like the pillows might dislodge. If I forget to do so, I get the same condition that you describe.

Edit: may also mean that you are using the wrong size pillows. If you don't believe that it's a tightness issue, then move to the next larger size pillow and give it a try.

Luthie if you have lansinoh... use it, if breast feeding moms can use it when nursing their newborn babes with NO side effects, then you can use it on your nares and it won't degrade the silicone. Many of us have used it with NO problems whatsoever in degrading the silicone... its safe, its pure lanolin which comes from sheeps wool
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Thank you bv and nanwilson: I wear a chin strap first on my head and when I loosen up the 2 thin straps on the headgear of Airfit P10, it feels like it will fall off to the point that air starts gushing out from leaks. I decided not to wear the chin strap last night, and my mouth felt like the Sahara Desert and woke me up at night. I will try a "large" size, but right now my nostrils are so red (I look like Santa Claus, especially the left one) that people are even telling me this at work and asked if I have a cold. I will not be able to use my CPAP for quite awhile unfortunately until this pain/redness goes down.
I think what is happening is that when I lay on my side on the pillow, it smashes the nasal pillows against my nose and the pillow on the bed. I am sure you know what I am talking about. Thank you Nanwilson: I will use the lansinoh cream on my nostrils before putting on the nasal pillows once my nostrils and nares heal. Doesn't it make the nasal pillows slippery?

Thank you all! I actually saw on here that the LARGE may be a better fit than medium on the Airfit P10 nasal pillows. And I think it will be better. I always thought that the "large" pillows would be for a "man's size nose". I am a woman and thought that I should be wearing a Small, or Medium. I think the Medium nasal pillows are being crushed against my nose when I lay on my side on the pillow.
I am going to try the LARGE pillows tonight that came with my Airfit P10 and try the Lansinoh and go back to the chin strap. I think hopefully this should all help.

Thank you.
