Isn't that a bit like saying "If you're car is damaged in an accident, why do you have to depend on your insurance to repair it for you? Pay for it out-of-pocket."?
That's why we buy insurance
WHAT???
Does YOUR car insurance pay for a new car for you every five years......even if there's nothing wrong with it? AND, let you keep your previous one?
I highly doubt that YOUR car insurance pays for tires, oil changes, normal maintenance, etc. Many health insurance policies pay for the XPAP "consumables"......hoses, masks, filters, etc., etc.
What started this discussion is that someone apparently thinks their insurance should pay for their new XPAP machine sooner than it will wear out.
And, if something breaks with the XPAP, in the first two (or three years in some places), it will be repaired under warranty (unless the user is grossly negligent).

Extremely poor example. Comparing apples to oranges.

OK, I used a bad example comparing it to car insurance I'll be back if I can think of something better

My first machine died shortly after the 2 year warranty expired. DME said not their problem, no loner no nothing. Respironics said they would repair it in about 6 weeks at my expense.

Insurance replaced the machine, since I could not function after a week of no treatment. That machine lasted 6 years, still working, but the insurance just replace it with a new machine.

The first machine, I eventually had it fixed out of my pocket and have used it as a backup machine though it has since died again.
