Xian, I had the same thing when I started CPAP. For me, it went away after a month or two; steadily decreased.

Had a sleep study last night and was on cpap for 3-4 hours of it. I couldn't breath deeply through my nose on it, so felt like I didn't sleep much at all...now all day today I have been unable to get a full breath of air, chest pain/pressure, sighing, symptoms others have described... I was on it for 3 hours and can't breathe for a day....I don't think I can handle "several weeks or months" of getting used to this...as the doctors seem to think this machine is what I need. What other forms of therapy are there?

It takes a few days for your muscles to get used to pushing the air out. Sort of like any other muscle pushed to do more work.

You can get a tracheotomy.

When you are tested (as you were) they often take things to extremes to see how bad (or not) your problem is, and at what pressures, positions, etc. etc. What you experienced is not normal otherwise and I wouldn't concern yourself about it now... none of us would be on Cpap if we had similar experiences except for the occasional bit of soreness while getting used to things, but what you describe is not usual and may be as much because you're suddenly conscious about your breathing and experiencing a little anxiety today!

Please ignore that tracheotomy business - it's also not a normal part of life for the rest of us.

I've been on cpap therapy for 18 months, right away, I noticed my breath was shallow and all day, I just decided to no use my cpap and just have the snoring.....A lung X-ray and ct scan recently said I have hyperinflanted lungs, and emphysema, great, that's all i need, I have been breathing easier during the day since i stopped the cpap, It's good I'm not prone to panic as there are, were many times i thought I would not be able to breathe It's great for sleep but I'm miserable during the day

I've been on cpcp for 18 months, just stopped using it because immediately I had day time breathing issues that are now so sever that I feel like I can't breathe at all sometimes. 2 day w/o cpap and I'm breathing easier and deeper, I'll take the apnea thank you,
