Ripoff and Fraud

Post by Bullfinch » Tue Sep 16, 2014 4:03 pm

I'm beginning to believe that all this CPAP/BIPAP Crap is just another medical ripoff and huge money maker for the pseudo medical community. I have had cpap and bipap now for years and every time I try to get new supplies, hoses, masks, etc. I have to go thru the most God Awful dance. First I have to get a new RX which I have to pay for, then try to find the company I used before (2nd Wind) is no longer in business in my community. Got the new RX from doc, they faxed it to Lincare......they don't have it. My hose is taped together and the mask is one my deceased brother used. I can't seem to get anyone to listen or to help me......I give up. I think it's all a damned scam anyway.

I think if it was a scam the machines and accessories would be easy to get, not hard to get.

They would be pushing people to buy, buy, buy!

IMHO.

that's why I get most of my stuff on ebay and amazon

you realize you can get hoses on amazon for like 6$, right?

though, the last one I got was from cpap.com for about 11$, a 10 footer so there was room to move around (6 foot hose is a bit short when you've got a 6 foot wide bed)

Get a prescription that doesn't expire. Or, if you have one with no expiration date, send/fax it to CPAP.COM and buy from them. Buying from brick & mortar (local) DMEs is an effort in frustration. Everything I've purchased in the last nine years (beyond my initial purchase) has been out-of-pocket. No messing with insurance, no messing with DMEs......I just order what I need. And, I order over $100.00 worth of stuff at a time so I can get free shipping.

I actually just got one recently with no expiration date on it and I'm wondering if it would continue to be honored indefinitely? I know the insurance coverage would require regular visits, every 6 months or whatever but I got this specifically since there are times I don't really care if something is covered or not.

And you can buy the parts for masks from online dealers withOUT a script, then put it together yourself.

Come on, folks.

Another unregistered guest comes on and makes a semi-hysterical ranting post, and you're buying it? Seriously?

I often wonder if this site attracts so many trolls because we're such easy prey?

In addition to what Julie said......yes.
You only need to go to https://www.cpap.com/cpap-faq/Prescriptions.html and read.

Sometimes there are "benefits" that come out of these troll posts.
Certain words push buttons and arouse curiosity......"Hate", "Ripoff", "Fraud", etc.
It gets people to read them and put forth their opinions.

I have recently felt a touch of what the OP was ranting about and not just due to CPAP gear and treatment. And yes, the reading along with Wulfman's imperative to do some additional reading got me to discover the open-ended nature of my new prescription

Yet many here are vehemently opposed to older posts being allowed to stand and be responded to, even though there are similar benefits that accrue from many of these older posts.

I guess I'll just have to apologize and be forthright here: I cannot take any post from an unregistered user seriously. It's my belief that if someone is too infirm to register they need to be at the ER, not on the internet.
I have never had (I don't think) an objection to older posts/subjects being resurrected and discussed. As I've stated, there is virtually nothing new in this therapy and have frequently pointed new users toward the Search function to look for their answers in the archives.

I also have no problem with "guest" posters. I've posted in non-logged-in-mode myself for many years (for various reasons), but usually with what is now my current user name (which is a derivative of my original user name). So, it would be hypocritical for me to claim otherwise.

So how do you feel about someone who registers just to make a controversial post 5 min later? This is not the first time it has happened - prob just someone trying to stir the pot.
