Re: SleepyHead 0.9.8-1 Testing Builds

Hey Mark. Thanks so much for all your work. The first thing I noticed when I checked out the new preferences was the warning about Resmed session splitting. When I follow the link though, there's nothing in the wiki entry. What are the pitfalls of changing the time that the session splits?

Re: Need CPAP badly, am Confused, Please Help

I got my machine from secondwind and have had no problems with it. Before making the purchase I checked with every vendor I could find and the best price for a new machine was from our host, CPAP.com. The only difference between going new or used (besides about $250) is that the new machine comes wi...

Re: Beards and Masks

I have a goatee. I used to use a FFM and had leak problems. I don't know to what extent the beard contributed to my leak problems, but I suspect very little. The only contact with the beard was at the bottom of the mask, and my leaks seemed to be from the sides and top. Now I've switched to a nasal ...

Re: Long-term cancer, etc. risks of CPAP?

Dr. Park just posted an article on his blog which discusses what he now regards as a proven link between untreated OSA and cancer. http://doctorstevenpark.com/how-sleep-apnea-may-cause-cancer?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+doctorpark+%28Dr.+Steven+Park%29 So there seems t...

Re: lurker coming out

It seems like your real choice at the moment is to find another job or lose weight (or you could pay for an in-lab study, but that's kind of pricey). I was 350 lbs. when I was first told I had OSA. I've now lost over 100 lbs. You could lost 30 in a few months, and then get a new study. There's never...

Re: Heated tubing necessary?

I've only been on CPAP for 6 months. I'm in the northeast of the US and so far I've not had a drop of water in my tube. Humidity setting is 5. I'm not sure if the condensation problem is supposed to be worse in the winter or summer? I hang up my hose, but just to keep it out of the way. What I have ...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

JQLewis, I am assuming the OSA of your website is for Obstructive Sleep Apnea? My suggestion is that you don't limit to obstructive. Sure, it's the predominant condition but it might best to stick to SA or something like that. Also, you might include questionairs on your website (unless they are th...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

I think that there are a few individuals who are concerned and are trying to do something. I think the American Sleep Apnea Association exists for the benefit of the sleep industry and not the patients. I think being sleepy makes it hard to organize. Suffers are struggling with their therapy, with ...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

In reality OSA is diabetes. It's also heart attacks and strokes and automobile accidents. OSA kills people who have never had a bad night's sleep in their life. That's got the potential to be pretty public, if it's addressed properly. You are correct and I think that instead of building our own ass...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

As to what advocates should advocate for, I think that's obviously an important question. At the same time though, it's a bit too simple. First of all, you can't advocate for anything without first representing a lot of people. If you represent an organization with 12 members, who's going to listen...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

I don't consider myself apathetic, I just have dealt with the 'medical world' much longer & much more than you have. That's an interesting assumption. I'm not sure what it's based on. I was the primary caretaker for my parents and saw them through multiple cancer treatments, diabetes, heart conditi...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

Apnea usually happens at night. People don't talk about it; most don't even know they have it. They also don't speak about ED, VD, and depression, all while they suffer. Alone. and silent. I don't believe they are apathetic at all. --just helpless and miserable. More awareness would help, not only ...

Re: Are OSA Patients Apathetic?

JQLewis, I enjoyed reading your thoughts. If you were, say, a SA Advocate, or some other lofty name..... what would you advocate for? Now that might sound like a stupid naive question on my part; you might think, "isn't it as plain as the cpap mask on your face?" Well, not necessarily, IMHO. And wh...
