Re: Do Many of You Have the Ramp Feature Turned Off?

I used it for a week and then ditched it.

Re: ASAA Support Forum is gone, gone, gone

Well, so far their reorganization seems to be extremely underwhelming. Why should it be any better? If people don't demand effective representation they'll continue to be treated like chumps. And they'll deserve it.

Re: Hospitals are NOT prepared for xPAP...

I was not permitted to bring my own machine during a recent stay. The machine they provided was a Respironics BiPAP Vision, set to CPAP mode, which they didn't know how to set-up. They left the hose dangling on the bed (an incredibly heavy hose compared to my home machine). I had to insist a RT set ...

Re: Passed a sleep study after years on CPAP

Do you have access to an oximeter? You'd need a decent one which could give you the results from an entire night's sleep as opposed to one which just gives you a "spot" reading. If your O2 levels are good throughout the night, that could give you an idea about which studies are giving you the true p...

Here's a thread which discussed the organization in detail.

Re: Asshats, unite!

For an almost completely unmoderated forum this place is remarkably polite. All forums have a divide between "regulars" and "newbies". That's human nature. Here it's pretty minimal. There clearly are people who come here looking for an excuse to get off the hose. They wind up getting a dose of sympa...

Re: Traded One Problem For Another

You may simply need to try a different mask (there are a lot of different designs). A lot of people report good leak prevention from using mask liners (which can also help with "mask marks"). Another question is when do these leaks occur? Are you using the "mask fit" feature to make sure you're at l...

Re: Traded One Problem For Another

I was also a lifelong mouth breather. I never knew there was anything wrong with that. Then I found that while using a FFM I was suffering very bad dry mouth, which was actually interrupting my sleep. I decided to try to train myself to nose breathe. At first I did it while wearing the FFM, and I co...

Re: CPAP Education Outreach

The key to getting out any kind of message at all, it seems to me, is organization. Single voices are ignored. Small organizations are ignored. There was an effort along these lines mounted here about six years ago or so. I can barely find any remaining references to it, and apparently the people in...

Re: Leaks During Sleep

When I switched to a nasal mask from a FFM , my main concern was mouth breathing. Fortunately my leak data was pretty consistently low. My AHI was well managed and I thought everything was fine. Lately though, it's all been going downhill, fast. My leak data is out of control. Once again I thought ...

Re: CPAP Education Outreach

THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO COULD IMPLEMENT SOMETHING LIKE THIS ARE NOT INTERESTED IN DOING SO. That would be the Doctors that are seeing the patients.. In many cases the Doctors themselves are uneducated or simply don't care (or don't give a shit). Insurance companies don't care, all they want is their co...

Re: CPAP Education Outreach

I am absolutely certain that a couple of years (!) before I went in to be formally diagnosed I heard a PSA on the radio about the symptoms of OSA. And I said to my DH, "Gee, it sounds like I might have sleep apnea." And he said, "Yes, it does." And then I did nothing more until I fell asleep behind...

Re: CPAP Education Outreach

Getting people properly diagnosed with apnea is not always easy. I accompanied my brother in law to his doctor appointments for two years explaining that I believed he had sleep apnea, before I convinced the doctor to have him tested. I think he scored about 300 on the Epworth test. So you have to ...
