Cpap nasal mask and allergy; nasal congestion

Hello, I am a new user and miserable! I have the newest of the newest Cpap machines. this means I use a flexible, soft, plastic nasal device into which the air is pumped at the necessary pressure which the machine itself figures out. It starts very mild and depending on the apneas the pressure becomes greater.
I have only had the machine for 10 days and twice this week I woke at 3:00a.m. with congestion, totally unable to breathe through my nose, severe nose drip and sneezing; in other words a big allergy which is something very very rare for me. Now I also have some sort of condition starting at the outer corner of my eyelids and spreading under the eyelid, somewhat swollen, red and itchy. I looked up blepharitis but it doesn't seem exactly that. Could it be allergy to the plastic of the nasal device? I have developed this eye condition in the past 5 days. Please send me feedback! I am miserable! Thank you

Are you using a humidifier? If so, at what setting?
Often nasal congestion and/or allergy like symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, etc) can come from either not enough added moisture to the air going up the nose or too much added moisture. There's no right or wrong. It's an individual thing that varies a lot between individuals. If your humidity setting in low...try higher....if it is already higher then try lower...if it's in the middle then toss a coin.
Google "cpap rhinitis" and you will see what I mean.

The external swelling symptoms could be irritation from leaks...maybe. Have you noticed any leaking into the eye area?

Thank you so much for your reply! I will modify the humidity level as suggested. I have noticed some "breeze" coming towards my eyes but did not think that was a problem since I was breathing ok with the mask. I have not figured out how to get rid of that "breeze" although I do my best to adjust the nasal device properly. I will probably need to go back to where I purchased the Cpap and have them show me what's wrong.

The 'breeze' is CO2 being vented from the patch of tiny holes somewhere at the front of the mask... do NOT cover it with bedding or anything else because you don't want to rebreathe the CO2. It won't kill you, but can be very unpleasant, make you dizzy, etc... and in any case is undesirable. It's necessary of course because unless you breathe with your mouth open when sleeping (also not good as you lose therapy air, and would need a mask that also covers your mouth ('full face mask') if so) you need the vent to be clear. Of course FF masks also vent, and it's even more important that they do as your mouth will be covered and you won't exhale the CO2 as you do in the daytime.

Oops, just realized you did say the breeze was going towards your eyes and that's not likely from the vent, but a mask leak, sorry!
