Every which way but up!

Post by jshuler43 » Mon Sep 15, 2014 7:27 am

Oh, still struggling to started on CPAP. I have gotten some sleep however. But I'm not able to get my minimum hours in yet. I will wake up with my mask off. Two days in a row I woke up with my mask still on. I was so excited until I realized somehow I had pulled off the mask hose from the humidifier hose! This morning I woke up with the mask off and the CPAP machine upside down on the ground. I have RSBD, so it's possible some of this is due to that.

If I could figure out how to get my SleepyHead results over here, that would be great. But my brain is just not getting it. I made a screen shot, but can't figure out how to upload it. But I will try to find someone who can help.

I am wearing my mask some during the day and in the evenings to get used to it. So even if I could transfer Sleepy Head results, it would be pretty strange. And I'm having trouble going to sleep with mask, so it may be 2:00am before i get to sleep, and then I have to have a couple hour nap during the day.

I'm not going to give up, but I don't know how long I can keep my machine if I don't get the minimum hours.

If the water from the humidifier got into the cpap when it was upside down, you may have ruined the machine.

There was some waster in the hose, but it's gone. Machine seems to be working okay. But I'm concerned it will happen again. I told my sleep dr I have RSBD and she said she thought it was from sleep apnea. As soon as I was on CPAP therapy, I would be fine.

But I've run into walls and furniture and had to go to ER. I told her I was concerned about my equipment being damaged in sleep, but she wasn't very concerned.

of course not, she doesn't have to replace it!

perhaps you can strap it down to the table.

it's really simple

upload your screenshot to imgur.com. they will give you a link, they'll even give you a 'bbcode' link.

paste that link into a message here.

the trick is that you can't upload the image here... you have to upload it somewhere else (I like imgur.com) and then just list the link here.

Is there a drawer in your nightstand that you could fit the machine into... drill holes in the back of it for the electric cord, maybe another hole at the side for the humidifier hose? If you have really good, expensive or antique furniture you might not want to violate it that way, but go to Target or Walmart and buy an inexpensive piece that you or a friend could put together.

For the issue with your mask, tape it on.. blue painters tape or medical tape on your cheeks. That way, when you attempt to take your mask off, the tape will wake you up enough to remind you that you need to leave your mask on.

I had to google RSBD, and you are obviously talking about REM (Rapid Eye Movement) Sleep Behavior Disorder, but this also showed up in the search and it made me laugh out loud when I visualized attaching this to the xPAP gear somewhere.

While this thread is somewhat old, I thought I would chime in as someone else who has been diagnosed with Rem-Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD or RSBD) and also Apnea.
As i just got started on a cpap machine, a resmed s10, I worried about bringing another hard object into my sleeping area, as I have like you jshuler43 experienced Sleep related injury. Top priority is controlling the RBD. Melatonin (9mg) is working for me at present, though clonazepan is also recommended by many. I have pulled my mask off sometimes, and am still adjusting to cpap in general, but haven't had the kind of issues you had with impacting the machine in the night, which I feared. I hope you found a way to reduce your RBD symptoms!
