Sleepless in Tampa
Sleepless in Tampa
SO I got a new puppy and he discovered my CPAP mask and hose... my mask is mutilated and my hose is rather religious (very 'holey' - lots of holes)
Anyway, I just started a new job and won't have insurance for at least another two months and I don't have the $150 - $200 to replace the components, just yet. I don't get the same quality sleep I was getting before and I'm finding myself being tired ALL the time! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do for a temporary situation to help get some solid rest? OR do you know of way to get the components at a MUCH lower cost or even FREE? I would greatly appreciate your help!

Welcome, You can check online prices--cpap.com sponsors this forum, and sometimes Craigslist has some good prices.
The prices at local suppliers are higher, mostly because they can do it.

I found two six foot hoses on Ebay for $7.14 total. Like PR said, Ebay has mask parts but I haven't found any full masks there yet. PR - what full masks have you found on Amazon? I can't seem to find anything other than parts there too. Thanks!palerider wrote:hoses are available on amazon for as little 6.20. possibly less on ebay. mask parts, an indeed full masks can be found on amazon, and mask parts on ebay.Trekisney wrote:SO I got a new puppy and he discovered my CPAP mask and hose... my mask is mutilated and my hose is rather religious (very 'holey' - lots of holes)

I've bought two remed p10s and piliaro q there. the q was adverstised as the mask and a separate listing for headgear, but the mask had the elastic headband included in the package. (I'd not have bought the other headgear if I'd known!)SleepyEyes21 wrote:I found two six foot hoses on Ebay for $7.14 total. Can you sell masks without a prescription if you're a DME and not a private seller?

That's what I thought, odd though that rule seems...
But private sales are OK?

Re: Sleepless in Tampa
Private individuals are not obligated to the same medical regulations as those who are contracted to provide medical products, or at least probably carry less risk. Although I must say it seems a gray area as this premise does not hold true across the board. For instance, I could still be in big trouble for reselling prescription meds even though an individual. I'm not sure what the letter of the law is, but it seems to me no one is out there seeking to identify and charge the private seller of single items. There's bigger fish to fry. As big fish, I'm guessing companies like eBay and Amazon have either chosen to err on the side of caution or are by contract obligated to do so.

Re: Sleepless in Tampa
Amazon and some other sites seem to be using a loophole that lets them sell mask parts without a prescription. If you buy all the parts of the mask, you end up spending about the same price you would spend on a website like cpap.com, but they'll sell you the parts without a prescription. This could especially work to your advantage if some of the parts to your mask can be salvaged. Just buy the parts that can't be used.
