Reviews have indicated the Z1 has its limitations, meaning that although it may be a dream for some,
it can be a nightmare for others. The Transcend seems to be somewhat quieter/flexible, with an Auto now available.
They both are reported to be louder than the Intellipap Autoadjust, which I purchased for my backup/travel unit.
(and which is a much more refined machine for less money) --just saying.

ive got one but there is a lot of excess breathing noise at the mask...the actual marine is quite quiet

I don't know how much you've used the Z1 but it does take a while to get used to.

My theory is that the air is moving fast to make up the CFM needed to maintain pressure so some masks make more noise than others. If you can use CPAP-3, once it adjusts to you the pressure upon exhale is much reduced as is the noise upon exhale. My F&P Eson seems to work fine with it.

If you only use your Z1 for travel once in a blue moon then it may be difficult to get used to. I use mine 60-70% of the time and I sleep as well with it as my PRSOne

My Resmed has me so spoiled that I no longer take the Devillbiss along
unless I expect to need to sleep in the car. -- or a tent!

So I've been traveling 35-45 weeks a year, basically Mon-Fri on airplanes, for 12 years and I'm fed up with it. I cant stand going through TSA or dealing with them. When I got my first Z1 most airports didn't have the TSA-Pre line and they would make me unpack my PRS1 for the Xray.....just a royal PITA when you're already fed up. With the Z1 I didn't even take it out of my backpack. Nobody knew or cared what it was.

Now I carry the Z1 Auto and though I know many won't believe me, I find it just as comfortable as my PRS1 minus the Humidifier. The HME's keep me from drying out but they don't provide the stuffiness relief that the PRS1 does on 5. Once HDM releases their noise fix most folks will be very happy with their Z1's.

I really don't get it. If you take off the humidifier from your PR1, the PR1 is only slightly bigger than the Z1. That is the Z1 with all its frills. Then what you need to get, to get the same smallness is a small packing case. The Z1, without the battery seems about 40% less bulky. You can come pretty close to the same packing with the PR1 without the humidifier. Am I wrong in this?

First, the Z1 is significantly smaller and lighter than the PRS1 without the humidifier and the HUGE power adapter. But even if I wasn't concerned about size and weight (which is why I purchased the Z1) I would get home at midnight or later Friday night and unpack hook up my PRS1 to the humidifier and use it. Then on Monday Morning at 3am when I get up to catch my 6am flight, I disassemble the PRS1 and pack it.

With the Z1 it's left in my backpack and when I get home I just go to bed. When I get up on Monday I just shower and leave the house.

When you're on the road all the time the little things matter....though the PRS1 and Power adapter are anything but little.

If it's the regular Z1 cpap machine, while in stand by mode push and hold the power button for a few seconds

If it's the Z1 Auto you follow same procedure but then after that hold both up and down buttons together for a few secs to unlock.

After you select a new pressure you have to again hold power button for a few seconds to make the Z1 accept the new setting

Can anyone tell me if (and how) you can turn off the Z Breathe feature? My home machine is a CPAP and the varying pressure with the Z Breathe is hard to get used to.

I can't and don't think that you can but you best bet is to ask HDM

As for the Z-Breathe, try it for a couple of nights and I think you will get used to it. I like CPAP-3 or APAP-3 but it takes a number of breaths in order for it to sync with your breathing.
