Post by Lablover326 » Fri Aug 29, 2014 7:42 pm

Hello all I am new to this forum I have been using a res med s9 elite with the humistat hose and a nose pillow. All has been well up to a week ago . I am waking up with a extremley dry mouth . I called the res therapist and she told me to increase the the humidity to 82 I did and it hasn't changed the dryness hopefully one you veterans of cpap can point me in the correct direction the therapist acted as if i was bothering her.

In all probability, you're leaking your therapy air out your mouth while you're sleeping. Increasing the humidity can actually make it worse.
If you're somewhat congested before going to bed, it's a good idea to do some nasal cleansing so you can at least breathe through your nose when you mask up.
For some, warm humid air can cause MORE congestion and make things worse. Some of us in that category turn our humidifier settings WAY down or Off.......using "passover" (cool) humidity (water in the tank but no heat).
You're probably going to have to do some experimentation to see what works best for you.
Oh, and many of the "nasal mask" users on the forum tape their mouths shut to keep them from falling open during the night. Some can train their tongue to stay to the roof of their mouth, which may help. Others need to switch to a full face mask.

You have a fully data-capable machine, so you can monitor your therapy with software (highly recommended) so you can see if your leak numbers are indicative of major leaking.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm a cpap newbie who is also struggling with dry mouth. I use a nasal mask, and have added a chin strap. I've tried 6 different FF masks and can't find one that works without terrible leaks. Small face + high pressure = FF mask failure. My RT advised me to turn up the humidity. I did notice increased morning stuffy nose. Maybe I'll give the passover, cool humidity a try? Can I do that on my machine? I'll check the set-up menus.

The data on the cards can be downloaded into your computer and analyzed by some available software.
For the ResMed machines, there are a couple of options.
The ResMed software is called "ResScan". Depending on what computer operating system you use, may depend on what release of the software you need.
There is another product developed by one of the forum members "jedimark". It's called "Sleepyhead" and there's a "sticky" up in the "Announcements" section about it.

I don't use either one as I use older Respironics machines which use Encore Pro software.

There are sources to download either of the software products you'll need (again, depending on which OS you're using).

Maybe someone reading this thread can point you to those sources.

Sure. Just turn off all the "heat" options in your settings.

Thanks wulfman. Between the stuff I've already read in 2 days on this forum, and actually reading my machine's user manuel, I've learned way more than what my DME provider showed me when they set me up. I now know how to adjust the humidity level, and the temperature. I have the heated hose on my machine, and the DME provider didn't really explain what the 1-5 dial really does. Now I can fine tune what works for me. Last night I tried a humidity level of 2, and a tube temp. of 2. I also adjusted my chin strap a little better. This morning my dry mouth was much better, and my nose less stuffy. I may experiment with a temp setting of 1 tonight.

Thanks so much for the education!

Maybe you wanna try a small amount of glycerin (from pharmacy) at bedtime. just swish it around a bit .dont swallow more that half teaspoon.keeps my mount moist.
