resmed escape II

Post by blueskin » Thu Aug 28, 2014 5:53 pm

I have this machine and have been using it steadily for the past few years. I've got life insurance company asking for proof that it's used as I have claimed. Does anybody know where the data card is , how to get It out and print usage hours . I a real tech slug so the simpler the better. Thanks for the help.

A data card would have come with the machine. If you don't have it you need to try e-bay or a local DME. The slot for the card is in the back.

Not sure if this is your card

I'm assuming your machine is an S8 series machine. Anything with the word "Escape" in it is not capable of collecting "data"......only hours used......which would have to be taken from the usage meters in the setup/user options menus.

If you have used a local DME for support and additionally where you got the machine from, there should be some documentation on when you received the machine and whether it was brand new (having no user hours on it).
In the menu for that machine, the machine has kept track of "Used hours" and "Usage". There also may be a category for "Compliance" which is the number of nights of use greater than 4 hrs. (minimum compliance hours)

Even if it has a data card in the slot, most DMEs probably don't have the capabilities to read it anymore (it's an older machine).
Besides that, the card readers for those machines are nearly impossible to find anymore.

If you've been having follow-up appointments with your doctor you may be able to just send your office visit reports.

I've never heard of a life insurance company requiring this... interesting.

They would require this information if you were applying for life insurance and indicated that you were treated for OSA. You must disclose all medical information.

Yup, that's the card. 1800cpap.com sells it for $9.99. It's buried on their website, but you can find it by searching for "ResMed S8 Series ResScan Data Card". It is an oddball data card based on 1980's smart card technology, and not compatible with anything modern.

I was able to buy a data card reader on eBay two years ago from a seller in Israel, but it is no longer available. You may want to ask your doctor or a local DME if they can read a data card from an S8.

Look on the back of the machine next to the filter for a small plastic panel, which may or may not have a slot. There is no circuitry in the panel and it can be removed easily in case you have one without a slot. There are two sets of electrical contacts on top of the circuit board. Ignore the contacts on the edge. The data card connects to a set of contacts further back in the machine. I have successfully downloaded my data while the plastic panel was removed.
