How to get prior data from Resmed S9 to SD Card?

Post by Joyful Sleeper » Thu Aug 28, 2014 4:51 pm

Hello!

This morning when I went to download my data from my SD card to my SleepyHead software I realized that last night my Resmed S9 Autoset CPAP machine didn't record the appropriate files on the SD card even though I used the CPAP machine and the SD card was unlocked and in the machine while I was using the CPAP machine. When I look at the S9 machine LCD display I can see the hours I used it as well as the AHI, THI, CAI, leak, pressure, etc from the summary data, but when I look at the SD card there is only one file from last night in the DATALOG folder and it's zero bytes (it was made at the time I went to sleep and ends in BRP). There are usually eight files in the Datalog folder (two each ending in BRP, EVE, PLD & SAD), so something happened and the Resmed S9 Autoset didn't write to the SD card.

I'm not sure exactly what happened but I have a vague sleepy memory that the LCD screen did give me a funny message when I went to bed last night and did something weird (I think it turned itself off & on like it rebooted itself or something but I don't remember exactly what happened...); hopefully it was just a fluke and won't happen again. I tested the machine with a new SD card today and the machine appears to be writing files to the SD card just fine now.

My question is, is there any way I can get the summary and detailed data from last night from the Resmed S9 onto an SD card now? I'd like to a) be able to prove to my DME that I used the machine last night for compliance purposes without having to bring them the machine and b) be able to see the detailed info in SleepyHead.

Thanks in advance for any help!

PS Do I need to unplug the machine each time before removing or inserting the SD card? The Resmed instructions say to disconnect the S9 from the power outlet before removing the card but it would be easier to just remove the card without unplugging it first. Also, should I put it back in before or after reconnecting the power?

Wonder if the SD card accidentally sort of popped out of the slot last night? If the SD card isn't seated in the slot properly all night then you lose the detailed data graphs. SleepyHead needs those files for it to compute anything. That might explain things if Sleepyhead is showing no use last night.

The S9 still records the summary data (AHI, leak, pressure) its internal memory and it will write that data to the SD card if you put the SD card back in the machine. The problem is SleepyHead can't get it figured out. Now ResScan can and that's what your DME will use. Last night's usage data will be put on the SD card and show up in ResScan even if the card wasn't in the slot.

If you don't have ResScan and want it send me a private message and I will help you find it. ResScan will show the usage even if SleepyHead doesn't. When you put the new SD card in the S9 it automatically wrote all the summary usage data to the SD card...nothing is lost except in SleepyHead's mind.

No, there's no need to unplug the machine to do anything with the SD card.

Hi Pugsy,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my query!

Not sure what happened last night but hope it won't happen again:)! Thanks for clarifying the not needing to disconnect from power before removing/inserting the SD card issue & confirming that the detailed data is indeed not retrievable.

For the summary data: I did put the original SD card back in the machine and I did a test (I used the machine for a couple of minutes) and it wrote the data for the test to the SD card just fine but it didn't write any data from last night. I tried a different (new) SD card and again, it writes fine now, but isn't putting any data from last night on the SD card. Or at least that's what it appears to me from looking at the DATALOG files and from looking at what shows up in SleepyHead. Perhaps you're right that it's there and just invisible to me and could be accessed if I had ResScan?

I have a Mac and my understanding is that I can't use the ResScan software with a Mac; is that true? That's the reason I'm using SleepyHead.

Again, thank you--I appreciate it!

The machine is putting on to the SD card the data that is stored in its internal memory..that' data is there but Sleepyhead can't see it because SH needs all the files and all the files aren't stored on the S9's internal memory.
You can't see last night's data at all with Sleepyhead if it isn't here now.
For some reason the SD card didn't get written to. It happens..either SD card maybe got bumped and backed out a little or the S9 just had a hiccup.

The usage is there though and ResScan can see it. Your DME will be using ResScan.

I have this sort of thing happen when I forget and leave the SD card in the computer and don't put it back in the S9 when I go to bed.
SleepyHead says I didn't use the machine but ResScan says I did. Now I don't have all the detailed graphs in ResScan but I have summary usage, AHI and pressures.

And yes unless you put Windows on the Mac you can't use ResScan.

Nothing you can do about it now. Just make sure when you go to bed that the SD card is correctly inserted and that's about the best you can do. The machine's do have little hiccups every now and then. I have had the detailed graphs go missing when I was for sure that the SD card was in place. It's rare...I don't know if it is a bad spot on the SD card or just the little gremlins playing with things.

ResScan is what your DME will use and it will show at least last night's hours of use.
