Bowf may still be waiting--sometimes "health professionals" can be slower than we like.
Insurance companies are even worse. If an HMO is involved--I shudder to think.

Six years ago my HMO took 3 months to finally pay for my S8 AutoSet II, last year and this it took my Blue Cross PPO 7 months to finally pay for the new S9 AutoSet. YMMV.

Take it back immediately. You dont want to be stuck with that piece of junk. The DME really tried to pull one on you. After you get the proper machine try to get them in trouble if it wasnt "just an honest mistake".

Greed.

Take it back. Get what Dr ordered. DME can be in serious trouble for substituting on RX!

Insurance company? WTH?

The DME filled the prescription incorrectly and possibly fraudulently. The DME has a big problem that they better fix quickly without concerning themselves about any insurance company.

Typically an HMO may have only one provider--most likely a subsidiary of the HMO.
Other insurance companies use similar nasty tactics to "control costs".
{like BCBS and their in-house pharmacy}
If you do not know where this can go, you are indeed fortunate.

Update:
Company said my insurance would not cover an autoset.
Sleep dr said that's a lie. Dr calls company from the exam room and tells them I need autoset and that they need to exchange.
Company says they will make things right.
I didn't hear anything from company in over a week, so I call them. Company says they will not exchange the device.
Dr calls in rx at another medical supply company. As soon as I get the new autoset, I plan to drop the auto escape off.

Wow. Make sure you keep your insurance company in the loop so that they don't pay the original DME, or make you pay for the "second" unit. Otherwise, given your experience with the first one, I can imagine them "refusing" the return (even if you physically leave it there) and continuing to bill your insurance company.

Sheesh.

DME tried to pawn off a cheaper unit to you so they could make more profit from you and the insurance company.

Hooray for your doctor! You must both be livid.

NOT the insurance company...The insurance company pays the SAME AMOUT to the DME regardless of which CPAP/APAP they disburse to you. The DME obviously tries to give you a lower priced unit since they get the same reimbursement regardless .

Here's hoping your doctor makes it clear to them that s/he will no longer be referring any of his/her patients to them. That's the ONLY thing that gets their attention.
