Tigerlily, after one night trying a collar here's my farthing's worth of exprience:
I asked the clinician who said it was fine and safe to try a collar.
I didn't find it hot.
Although I didn't initially find it uncomfortable, after a couple of hours I was really unhappy with having such reduced head mobility, and so determined is my mouth to open that it still managed to find a way to do so.
At this point I will be trying other things - including the ruby red you suggested - before settling for a collar.
May I ask why you are looking at the collar option if you have found the ruby red chin strap good??
Kind regards.

Hi,
Well, I don't have the ruby red. I do think I said I was thinking of trying it though. I have the PR style chinstrap. But it leaves marks on me because I have to have it so snug to be effective.

That's why I was thinking of the collar, but I don't know if it would work on not.

Thanks for all your help guys.
I am now using the Ruby Red and find it positively comfortable. As an added bonus it actually helps to keep the entire mask more comfortable as it is no longer slipping round in my hair.
I've been using CPAP for only 2 weeks, and I have lost count of the number of people who have told me that I seem different and even look different. Amazing....!

I have the resmed neoprene strap but I'm waiting on my Pap Cap - my RRT recommended it, it's made of cotton so I think that's going to be much more comfortable for me - plus the chin strap part is supposed to hold your mouth closed at a different, better angle. I'll post when I've used it for awhile. I ordered mine through Amazon and on my RRT advice, I did get the sm/med. http://www.amazon.com/PAPCAP-COTTON-CHI ... B007FGLTXE. There is a video about it on youtube as well, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CyhzcNaCRI

Thanks for all of the info on this thread, folks--I've just ordered my Ruby chinstrap from our trusty host CPAP.com.

MaryGordon, i'm on my third week on CPAP and it has been a life changer. Like you, I've adjusted to the CPAP pretty easily--only one mask change and a chinstrap will only make things better, I am sure!

Had problem with chin straps pulling chin back which closed off my breathing. My solution was to get a TAP 3 from Glidewell Labs. It's a fitted jaw positioner. With a simple RESMED chin strap, the air pathway remains open no matter how I move.
