Thanks for the support. It's a bit frustrating as they don't seem very knowledgeable. But I have checked several in my area and I don't think anyone else is any better.

They didn't show me anything on how to use the machine. Or even how to put on mask or get it fit. If my son didn't have a PR machine, I'd have been completely clues less.

Well, I guess I'll give them a call. I'm afraid they will say I have to make do with Hybernite.

My local DME guy seemed quite knowledgeable, but he had never heard of the heated hose upgrade kit until I asked for it and he looked it up by the part number I gave him - 6T-CONVKIT

Out of curiosity. What difference is the 560P and 660 on the PR CPAP?

Well, I got word from DME that Medicaid won't pay for conversion kit. They said I could buy one from them for $250. Considering I can buy it online anywhere for $75, that's generous of them!

Couldn't my DME have provided me the CPAP that didn't need the conversion kit?

Money is so tight now, I can't even afford the $75. But I'm kind of ticked they talked me out of Rescan I wanted and promised me the latest model series.

There are no other DME's to go to. So I guess if I want to have a CPAP I'm stuck. I haven't used it yet. I can still take it back.

Medicaid is funny (well not funny in a good way) but they pretty much only pay/cover what they deem necessity and unfortunately heated hose adapter kits aren't what they consider "necessary". You are lucky you got a full data 560 machine from this DME. They could have easily supplied you with the basic brick 260 machine.
Yes, they could have supplied a machine with the conversion kit already in place but they probably don't stock those units.

I wouldn't be taking the 560 back...it's a great machine otherwise and you can still use the Hybernite hose and it will do a very good job. Is it perfect? No, but it may be all that you end up needing anyway.

560 vs 660...the 660 is what we a bilevel machine. It offers 2 pressures. One for inhale and one for exhale. It's considered a different type of machine from your 560 machine which offers the auto adjusting mode for a single pressure. The 660 doesn't offer auto adjusting pressures. You would have to go up to the 760 to get auto adjusting capabilities. Bilevel machines are usually prescribed for situations where the cpap/apap machine has failed for some reason or other.

Depending on where you live and the temperature of your bedroom you may not even need the heated hose right now anyway.
It comes in handy most often in the winter when we usually have much cooler bedroom temps.

I would suggest starting out using the machine without the heated hose and see what happens. Unless your bedroom temp is on the cold side...it's doubtful you will have rain out issues. I would leave it on the default System One humidification system for now and not change it to Classic Mode.

The 560 is a full efficacy data machine....nothing wrong with it in that regards. If I had known you had Medicaid I would have warned you about the adapter kit likely not being covered.

Thanks for the input! I keep my room at 65. So I thought between that and my mouth breathing it might be a good idea to have a heated hose.

Hope this question makes sense - I'm still a bit confused. The DME took away the regular hose that came with the machine and gave me the Hybernite. It seems like it might be better to not use the Hybernite. Should I try to get back the original hose?

The need for heated hose will also depend on whatever humidity your nose ends up needing.

The nasal mucosa moisture level needs vary widely among cpap users. There's no hard fast rule that works for 100% of the population.
Some people need little to none added moisture and some people need as much as the machine will put out.
So if you end up needing not much added moisture then even with a cool bedroom you may not have any condensation issues.

There's some trial and error to the humidity preferences and settings just like there is with the mask fitting.

Edit: Well, crap. The DME took the regular hose back that came with the machine? Cheapskates. That was the really nice white Performance hose. They just want to sell it to someone else.
Use the Hybernite but don't plug it into the power source. That makes it a regular hose.
Send me a Private message and I will send you a generic regular hose. Everyone needs a spare and I have an extra you can just have.
I don't have any of the White Performance hoses (they can be found on EBay for cheap) but you can have one of the extra regular hoses that I have for free.
