What should I do just before having my sleep study

Post by sleepinow » Tue Aug 26, 2014 9:12 pm

Okay I am having a sleep study done tomorrow. What are some of the over the counter things that I can buy to help me sleep and be more relaxed for the study. I am thinking of taking some melotonin and valerian root with a herbal tea that helps to reduce stress and calm the person down. Please respond asap please!

Honestly? IMO it won't matter how "relaxed" you are for the sleep study, if you sleep they will get the results. Prior to my study last month I was instructed NOT to change my sleep habits for the purposes of the test, wear comfortable clothing, and take my regular medications as scheduled. At the lab, I was required to fill out a questionnaire prior to the exam that included inquiries into any sleep aids I may use, and if I had taken any that evening.

That said, I shorted myself a couple hours' sleep the night prior, I took a good book and comfortable pj's, and I dropped off pretty swiftly after lights out, no herbs/meds necessary. Just remember, this test is not a pass/fail, it's an assessment. You can't get it wrong.

Yes it's just that last time I took my test my sleep maintenence was around 37% and the technician asks me "why aren't you sleeping" which messed up my sleeping. He was also coughing for at least the first hour or two because his damn room was right next to mine but yeah hopefully this time around it will be better. I may take a melotonin though just so it can hopefully put me to sleep faster. Thanks

Drive to the sleep center with your sweetie in a camper.
Right before you go in, make the thing rock!

OTC sleep meds are basically Gravol or antihistamines. Antihistamines disturb many peoples sleep.

You could call your doctor and have them fax an Ambien script to your pharmacy.

I tried calling and so far no response. I may go for a melotonin and passionflower mix as those two seem to have the least side effects

You could try soft ear plugs and SleepyTime tea (it's an herbal tea, I think.) Should be able to get both at Walmart.
