Love to sleep on my side but...

Post by CNTRL » Tue Aug 26, 2014 3:14 am

I naturally want to sleep on my side but the trouble is I get a sore back and are uncomfortable in the belly region in the morning for some time then it dissipates.
When I sleep on my back or front I dont experences this.
My 95th pressure is 7.5 and can top out at 9.0cm.
I am slightly overwieght, exercise regularly and work at a standing desk most of the day.

I know i know... doctor doctor "it hurts when I lift my arm" well dont lift your arm.

Any ideas?

Have you tried a memory foam bed?

Are you trying to avoid back sleeping because it creates the potential for the apnea events to be worse?
If you had REM Stage sleep where your OSA was worse would you try to limit REM sleep?

You have a machine that will auto adjust the pressures if needed to prevent stubborn hard to deal with events that might happen on your back....use it and let it do it's job.

Unless you have significant pressure differences between side sleeping and supine sleeping....like you need twice the pressure on your back and that creates a problem or the higher pressure cause issues with aerophagia or whatever...just let the machine do its job.

The primary goal...get good quality sleep.

Are you sleeping so soundly on your side that you don't move and that causes pain? I had that issue, and the memory foam mattress topper helps a lot! It was an expense, but worth it.

Help us understand the problem. If it's not that, then what? If you are more comfortable on your back and your AHI and leaks remain low, then go for it.

No I’m currently only avoiding sleeping on my side because of this issue, Its common to find my self on my side when I wake. My apneas events are low no matter how I sleep. Like you said I let the machine do its job.

Can explain a bit more how can you limit REM sleep?
>Pressure differences
My pressure is quite stable it goes up a few times (to about10.0) for a short time then back down (6.0) during the night.
I think my pressure is not bad. My tested AHI was 77, now less than 3.

Now that you mention it I sleep quite heavy on my side, you might be on to something here.

By the way I feel fantastic my mind is so alert and body is getting better everyday.
Quite a bit of farting though. ( if I’m aloud to say that )
Can this symptoms of are related to Aerophagia?

We can't. That was my whole point. Not without drugs to keep us out of REM or having something externally rigged up to wake us up every so often to mess with the sleep stages and prevent REM....we can't control REM.
Nor should we want to try. We need the normal progression of the various sleep stages for the restorative powers of sleep to work their magic.
