Numbers look good but still very tired?

Post by I've Been Tired » Thu Aug 21, 2014 10:05 pm

My AHI is below one and my leaks are at 2 leaks per minute over the last week. But I'm feeling very tired like when I didn't have my leaks under control about 6 months ago. Anybody ever have this experience? My nose seems to be a little congested similar to before my septoplasty. Could it be that I'm not getting enough air through my nose even though my AHI and leak numbers look good?

There's so much more to effective therapy than just leak and AHI numbers.
There's hours of sleep. How many hours of sleep are you getting?
There's quality of sleep. Are those hours of sleep fragmented by multiple wake ups for some reason?
If your nose has been a bit congested then maybe you are sleeping as well from a comfort aspect....allergy season is in full bloom and maybe that is a factor. Or maybe you need to play around with the humidity levels a bit. If I am the least little bit congested for some reason I simply don't sleep well and feel like crap the next day because I just didn't get good sleep.
Have you changed any meds? Added or removed meds or changed dosage?

Please put your pressure and other settings in your profile.

If you're using a range of pressures, that would be my first suspicion for the leaks and tired feeling.

I find I feel better if I increase my minimum APAP pressure a little above where I basically get zero apneas. It might be worth trying as an experiment.

My guess is that even though my APAP is preventing outright apneas, I'm still having some sort of suboptimal breathing.

Yeah, I think you're right. Maybe I'm just not getting enough sleep. I've been getting 8 hours lately. I would think that would be enough, but maybe not. I called in sick today and slept for 12 hours and I feel good today. I've always slept a lot. In college I slept 12 hours per day and that's when I felt my best. But, that's difficult to do these days and seems excessive.

The sleep is not fragmented and my meds haven't changed.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Thanks for the information. If you're using software to monitor your therapy, you should be able to "see" where the problems lie. If you're having more events above or below a certain pressure, you should be able to narrow your range to just a few centimeters of pressure.......or.......pick a single pressure and try that. Many problems such as leaks are created with ranges of pressures and can be disturbing to one's sleep.......resulting in the unrested feeling.

Best wishes,
