I'm new to the forum

Post by cyoungny » Wed Aug 20, 2014 8:26 pm

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and would like to introduce myself. My name is Cindy. I was recently diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea. I have tried several clap masks, and am having a difficult time adjusting to any of them. Is this just something that will become a normal thing for me after so long, or will I always struggle? Sometimes I feel like I'm getting a lot less sleep because I keep waking up feeling discomfort on my face and sweat around the rubber seal, which I can't stand. Any advice for me? Thanks!

Hi, can you give us some idea of which masks you've tried? Btw, it's not rubber, but silicone. And are you tightening them up too much so they're uncomfortable - and not allowing the thin cushion to inflate once the mask's hooked up - lots of little leaks can be created that way.

Welcome to the forum.
Have you tried a nasal mask? I use a swift Fx and it's great!

Yes, it is normal for it to take a while to adjust. Some people are lucky enough to take to it right away, for others it can take weeks or even months. You mention discomfort from the mask. You might want to try mask liners for that. They were a game changer for me after a week of misery in February when I started papping. Neither my DME nor other professionals told me there was such a thing, so when I came here looking for solutions, I found a few threads about liners. I googled them and found some. If you are using a pillows-type mask, you will want a barrel cozy that you can order from Pad-A-Cheek. Liners for other masks are available from Pad-A-Cheek as well: http://www.padacheek.com, or you can get RemZzzs liners at https://www.cpap.com, the sponsors of this forum, and many DMEs carry them as well. I tried them both and find RemZzzs more comfortable for me.

Welcome to the Forum, come back as often as you need to for help; it will help if we know exactly which machine and mask you are using - there are many models of both Resmed and Resperonics machines, and dozens of masks.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.
