Hypopnea vs Obstructive Apnea

I am new to all this... just started to use the mach on friday.... and I am looking at sleepyhead to understand my sleeping issues... can someone please tell me the diff of Hypopnea vs Obstructive Apnea.... also what else should I look at in sleepyhead to understand my sleeping issues

Hypopneas are like mini-apneas, not completely obstructive, but still need addressing (and you may tend to have lots more of them than true apneas). As far as SH goes, how does your leak rate look? And AHI of course? There are others here more familiar with the program who'll give you more info about it... so good luck with them all, and you'll learn quickly too, as most of us do (I just don't use those programs as my machine has a unique way of showing progress through codes on a website).

If you've ever heard somebody sleeping when their breath starts to sound kind of forced and restricted, but not stopped... that's hypopnea.

You don't really have enough events on your chart to make any conclusions, looks like your treatment is very effective.

There's a lot of stuff to learn - don't try to do it all at once. Start with AHI and Obstructive, Clear Airway, and Hypopnea - understand them and see how they show up on your charts; you can see the individual events on your EVENTS chart, and how they affect the flow on your Flow Rate chart - you can also zoom in on that flow rate chart around the events for a really cool visual of what's happening... click and drag to expand a section and then click back on 100% on the bottom to return.

As I said, there's not much to comment on because your therapy is going so well - what did your sleep study say?

My sleep study said I was have AHI 17...

On paper the reports look really good and nothing stands out screaming "fix me".

How are you sleeping? Soundly?
How are you feeling?
Any issues with the mask, leaks or comfort?

The relatively infrequent hypopnea episodes may also simply be a minor very short duration breath holding while turning or changing your sleeping position or even a subconscious "valsalva" whilst passing gas!.

those are not the same. they don't look the same, they aren't defined the same, and they aren't scored the same by the machines.
