Please just stop posting!

For everyone calling for the death of a certain thread (IN that thread, naturally ), you all know that any post there is going to keep the thread at the top of the list on the main page. So every additional post of "I think this thread is despicable" or "Please stop posting in this thread and let it die" - although well meaning - just exacerbates the problem.

Please just stop responding to whatever is posted there and let it die already. Or start a thread like this one that asks everyone to ignore that other thread. It really isn't rocket science, people.

Pugsy's apparently dealt with it (thank goodness!) and gotten onto Carolyn... but it may take a while til it's pulled.

I did send Carolyn a note but it wouldn't hurt for others to do the same...hint, hint. I am just one person.
And yes...that thread sickens me as to what it has become. It long ago lost any sort of helpful value.
I just sent the PM a few minutes ago so I doubt she will see it until maybe Sunday or Monday when she checks her messages.
It disgusts me to see such hateful crap so much that I don't want to be a member here where such hate is rampant.....just imagine what a newbie might feel like reading the nastiness that has come from that thread.
IMHO it needs some liquid nitrogen so it can just fade away.

It would have kept going for many after having read a few posts, or pages, whatever their stomach could handle, would most likely not even read a post but would just leave one without reading.......thats why its best to just delete or lock them....in this case deleting is best

So why don't we switch to being a moderated board? It works really well on many other boards that I belong to....

Thanks, Pugsy, but it irks me that it's even necessary to "call the police" at all. If the purported adults here could just keep quiet in a situation like that one, the thread would die quickly and the forum would be much more pleasant and welcoming to any noob.

Forget it. The subject's been raised here many times, and it isn't going to happen (and I'm glad it won't). The forum's been unmoderated for years (well, self-moderated), and it works just fine the way it is for 99% of the time. And for that 1% of the time when it doesn't, we deal with it by calling in the "big guns" when needed.

I applaud the "moderation" of the thread. Unfortunately, it seemed that a lot of people had forgotten that they had become adults - or the cognitive damage done by the apnea had removed the sense of what was right and wrong. Maybe what this board needs is a button to hide threads that we don't want to see so that we won't get sucked in to comment on something that is best left alone. At the same time, I would like to see a button for like/don't like so that we can get a flavor of what people think about a thread/post.

Don't assume that just because there isn't a large moderator presence here that this forum is totally absent of any moderation.
There is moderation here....just not in the form people see in other forums.
There are still rules and regulations here. People do get banned. Threads do get locked. I thought this last one had long ago died but then someone just had to poke one more time and off it went again.

My thoughts also. Common sense and/or common courtesy seems to have just totally gone flying out the window.
If I had been new to this forum and read all that garbage....I wouldn't come back.
I get so tired of people poking at people just to be poking. This is supposed to be a help forum...not a who can get the last nasty poke in.

But the thread wasn't dying and was only getting more hateful. The folks who posted asking for the thread to stop didn't prolong anything because that was going to happen whether they wrote anything or not.

Kudos to Pugsy for Pming Carolyn. I should have done that myself.

But then Im an urban gal who revels in the creative nuttiness of people.........but when you have 3, 4 or 5 people pointing out your flaws and never their own, or worse, other people who are new here and not able to defend themselves its gets quite tiring and they then deserve a mouthful in return..........

And every single person here is as capable of getting as pissed off with it as others do.

Yes, everyone's capable of getting pissed off and everyone has something to say in response to the offensive post(s). But the smarter people on the forum keep that reaction in check and DON'T respond. You want it to stop? STOP PARTICIPATING IN IT. Simple.

You're not hearing me. Contrary to popular belief, some threads do not die a natural death. This one met that criteria.

Anyway, I need to PM Caroline while I am thinking of it. Have you done that?
