ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
Has anyone had problems with the humidifier not working properly? When I turn
mine all the way up it still doesn't have enough humidity and I develop symptoms.
It was replace and the same ting happened again.
This didn't happen with my old machine. Thnx.

Re: ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
Which S9 do you have? DO you have the heated hose? What humidity setting are you using and what temp setting? Also, are you in a dry climate?
Are you feeling any moisture? I know when I wake up, I usually feel the humidity on my face where the mask is, right as I remove my mask. But I do have it pretty high to avoid dry mouth.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

If the water level is dropping you are getting humidity and the humidifier is working....(Unless there is a leak)Musica wrote:Has anyone had problems with the humidifier not working properly? When I turn

Re: ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
You don't say what symptoms, but for some of us too much humidity causes nasal sinus congestion.

Re: ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
When you think it's not working, turn it off, take out the water tank and see if it's warm.
The only way the humidifier can fail is to not heat the water or somehow let the air go around the water tank.
You do have baffle in the water tank, don't you? That's the clear plastic plate inside the tank that has yellow tab that says "Max" that lets you know how much water to add.
Please fill in the equipment on your profile. There's a link in my signature line below. In particular, we need to know what machine you have. It should say "Escape, Escape Auto, Elite, or AutoSet" next to the power button.
Air leaks can dry you out even if the humidifier is working properly. If you have a good machine, you can check your leaks with some free software.
How much water do you use per night?

Re: ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
I have issue with Resmed S9 Elite with Humidifier. Bought a brand new unit as a spare, and the heater for the humidifier does not work on new unit. Swapped the humidifier to try on the original unit and it functions fine. Problem appears to be in the control unit, and not the humidifier. Is there a setting that turns this on and off? Took it back to the supplier, and they could not find the issue. They returned it to the manufacturer. Any ideas?

Re: ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
I have a Resmed S9 VPAP Adapt with PaceWave, I used it for 6 months, the humidifier kept turning off and going cold, causing increase in asthma and reverse breathing.
It was new when I got it, and it went through 2 humidifiers, Also the unit would stop blowing for about 3-5 seconds.
I now have a replacement machine and the humidifier is going cold again.
Lab said the first one did turn off after a couple of hours. I don't understand why it is doing it.
I use warm up and i go to sleep with right level of humidification. but wake up cold air in sinus and feel the heating pad and it is cold.
Please help

Re: ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
I am only on my 6th night of CPAP ever and I've only had 2 nights where the humidifier didn't turn off and give me an ice cream brain headache from blowing cold air up my nose. ResMed S9 Elite w H5i humidifier. I think it's something faulty with the communication between the humidifier and main machine. I following all the super minimal instructions to a T.
Re: ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
I have had my ResMed S9 for about a year. I had to replace the humidifier 3 months after acquiring it. I started having sinus issues after acquiring the machine and I did not associate the two. Last night, I checked the water level, preheated it and made sure it was still heating when I went to bed. Immediately, I sensed something might be wrong, the machine was blowing more air than normal, it is set with a 15 minute ramp. During the night I woke up with uncontrollable sneezing and this morning I woke up with head and chest congestion. I checked the humidifier and it was stone cold. So, the night was spent with cold air and water filling my sinus cavity. I never had this problem with my ResMed S8 Auto. Crawling all over ResMed, will not work for me, a ResMed vendor, has a contract with the Veteran's Administration, so I am stuck with their machine. Another interesting note, my 84 year old father was having and still has problems with the humidifier on his ResMed S9 and I thought he was crazy, nope, I was the one that was crazy, for not believing him.
Re: ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
Do you have the humidifier(s) positioned below your head - water will run down unless you have it on a bit of a lower level. Also take into acct whether or not you (or your father) actually need the hum. on certain nights if the ambient climate/weather is already humid to begin with, at cold as well as warmer temps. No point adding possibly congesting moisture to an already well humidified atmosphere.

Re: ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
I learned a lesson many years ago, I always keep the machine at a level below my head, I also suspend the hose over the headboard of the bed to prevent condensation in the hose.
Re: ResMed S9 >>> Humidifier Problems
Actually, the "cold" air that was filling your sinus cavity was your room air...the same air you breath all day. It might cool a little by blowing over the room temperature water in the humidifier, but there is nothing in the CPAP that will make the air cold. Also...there is no relationship between the humidifier and the amount of air the CPAP blows.Txdeputy wrote:I have had my ResMed S9 for about a year.
