You have to remember that the cost of the equipment should include all follow-up and setup by either a registered respiratory therapist or sleep technologist. In most states it is the law that one of these perform the actual setup. When you order from CPAP.com there is no follow-up. A good DME company should contact you within 48 hours of you receive your CPAP machine, 2 weeks after that, 1 month after that and then every 3 months thereafter. This is why the cost is what it is. Insurance carriers expect them to follow-up with their patients and make sure they are compliant. If your DME company is not doing this then they are ripping off your insurance carrier and you.
I too have Apria and got my equipment through them. Fortunately for me I have 100% coverage. BUT, on my first visit to pick up my equipment, despite several phone calls and faxes stating EXACTLY what equipment I wanted, it wasn't there. Sooooo I had to make an appointment for an evening (also making the RT stay late) a few days later to pick up my equipment. The RT was also quite rude when I left voice mails and faxed requests for a callback until I got an answer from her to make sure my equipment was there the day of my 2nd appointment. Her exact reply <sans snotty tone used> was "I would have called if it wasn't here." OK then... You have a nice day too...

I had been told by my lab AND my carrier that the DME comes to your house with a variety of equipment/masks, etc. and sets you up in your HOME so that you can be sure that the mask fits well and the setup is correct in your home, etc. NOT. The RT was quite taken aback that I should think that she would lug around all the equipment to someone's home. She said that is only done for home bound people (wheelchairs, seniors, etc.) Hmmmm... So this is what we pay extra for our equipment for?????

As for follow up??? What the heck is that??? Not a single call from lab, DME, RT, etc. to see if I'm doing well, have any questions, complying - NADA! I'll have to check the laws in Illinois...

The only reason I know as much as I do is thanks to the good people here. As far as I'm concerned Apria and the rest of the B&M DME's can go where the sun don't EVER shine!!! The only light is from the burning flames

Linda

I sympathize with you Jorge, I'm on my 7th month of CPAP from Crapria / Medicare. I have been lied to more times then I care to remember. To make a super long story short, today I went to the local Apria office to find out what went wrong with my order for a new cpap mask (July 14) I was told that my order was stalled because I had'nt signed an agreement, so wanted me to sign a paper saying i was on the hook for $360.00 for my $99.00 mask should anything go wrong with Medicare billing. I simply don't trust them anymore, I refused to sign ( u sign, your fault) now I have to buy my supplies until Feb 15' when I will own this machine. If I had thought these guys were even 10% this bad I would have ran far and fast. BTW go small claims.

I fired them; there are other fish in the sea. I would have willingly traveled over 50 miles to use a decent supplier.
Luckily, the new guy is only about 3 miles from the house.

It's somewhat of a relief to see this thread is so old, but as a newbie that just got started with a CPAP from Apria, this was really discouraging to read.

I just posted an update to my nightmare with Apria on another thread. It is very discouraging.

I am a newbie who has also had horrible experiences with Apria. I've only been using them for a little over a month and already fired them. Still waiting for them to put money back in my account that they took without authorization.

Good luck. I hope they follow through. I am still fighting the charges for an order I never placed, returned to them, and they admit both things are accurate. They just won't reverse the charge.

CRAPRIA ! Yep.... sounds like them...... I wish you the best of luck in your lawsuit.

I have been on CPAP Therapy since 2006 and have yet to ever talk to a RT, let alone ever see one from Crapria.

They have not gotten any better in the 8 years I have dealt with them, so I don't expect it to ever get any better.

Apparently not.....

If it were my company, I'd have a couple of staff scanning the boards from time to time just to get a feel of how my business was doing.

They are either too dumb to do it, or just don't care.... or Both !

The search function returns 383 pages of comments mentioning Apria or in a thread with Apria in the title.
Want to guess how many are positive?
