I don't have an AIR handy, but I believe it's in the elbow. They're usually a plastic flap that is held closed when there is air pressure in the mask. When the valve is open, you can inhale air directly through the anti-asphyxia valve from the room air.

Disconnect your Quattro AIR mask from the hose and put it on. Plug the hose connector with your thumb. Inhale and air should come in fairly easily. Exhale gently and air should go out through the anti-asphyxia port. If you exhale forcefully, you may cause the valve to close, but it should open back up when you inhale. If you look carefully, you can usually see the open hole from the outside into the mask when the mask is not on your face. When you're breathing freely like this, you're breathing through the anti-asphyxia valve.
Thanks. I have only been using this mask for about 10 days now, if that? I can't keep track of the time but I have only been on the machine since May 28th and then about 4-5 days before that on a different one so I really haven't noticed that for any of my awake time has been trying to figure out how to get through the night, which I have only just finally accomplished over the past week
Now i will have time to read the manuals and learn about all the challenges i shall face at some point.
This particular one i had never heard mentioned before.

I shall try that tonight when i put on the mask

Thanks but don't worry. If PaleFace is who I think HE is, I have already been the recipient of several emails at my home calling me every name in the book, understanding that i blocked him after the 3rd i think it was and know a few more came in but bypassed me and were immediately deleted.

Ive already discovered in these sleep forums that there are some people with some serious issues..........as there are some other lovely people, there are some with incredible anger problems and i suspect 1-2 that aren't overly fond of strong woman.
Ive encountered people like this before and just block them.

I have been pretty appalled since i started with sleep apnea as to the rudeness shown many a newbie. In fact in one thread just a few days ago a couple of people were quite rude to one fellow who was new to CPAP and I asked then what the hell was wrong with some of the people here............

Walking Heart Attacks is how i refer to them as
If you participate on any major discussion board for any length of time you will need to develop a layer of tough skin; very tough.

wow, I mean... wow, not only are you about as bright as a ficus, and remarkably foul mouthed, as you demonstrated elsewhere in the forum, but you're also a barefaced liar too... I'm amazed, though, by now, I shouldn't be.

let's see.. *you* emailed me to complain that I'd blocked you on another forum, and you informed me that it was rude of me to block you and not read your posts.

I informed you that it was nothing personal, simply that you hadn't said anything I found useful, and I was trying to cut down on the amount of stuff there was to read. this offended you further, and you responded:

(if you're on the internet 24 hours a day, why do you need cpap, I had to wonder).

you told me that you didn't like it that "at least a couple of the male regulars gossip behind the scenes with one another about posters" on the other forum. I replied that I had no knowledge of that. I said "I'm sorry you feel that my not seeing all of your posts is rude. " and then said
personally, I don't understand your justification, down here in the states, people seem to get confused about the concept of "freedom of speech"... that means you're free to say whatever you want, but it does *not* mean I have to listen to it, or read it. that choice should be one of MY freedoms.

g'day to you too, thank you for a mostly civil discourse.
implying that I had noticed that you filled out your profile saying you were in canada.

I got this gem in response:
ShelaghDefectiveBrain wrote:!) Im not American

you know what…………do what you want……………lets just say that my experiences on that forum have been pretty negative and I had already decided I wanted very little to do with several of the older senior very out of touch men on that forum………………and I came back there to ask ONE question….LOL…………and then I see your stuff and it just reaffirms for me something I feel about the people on that particular forum that I have rarely experienced on any forum, but never with a particular age group and a sex………..so I just hope you aren’t above 50 or even 60 for if so it just has further proven something to me about the males of that generation of THIS forum……….

Anyway I have lost interest…………….i got the question I asked and in future I shall stick to asking younger woman who I think are just far more informative and without bias that I see the men above 50 of this type I speak of, having , as a rule…..
I replied:
canada isn't part of america? who knew. I must inform my geography teacher.

I'm aware you're not from 'down here in the states' as I put it, which would, it seems, signify that I was referring to you as being "up there".

I won't say what kind of an impression that leaves on me.

however, I will point out that you're a rather ageist, and sexist and apparently racist individual, and that I do believe that confirms my feeling that no good could come from reading your posts, which are typically vapid and without redeeming content.

I don't give a shit what's between a person's legs, or how old they are, or what color their skin is. what I do care about is whether they can hold an intelligent conversation, and not come across as a moron.

I suppose that makes me an intellectist.

I'll live with that.
which resulted in this:
ShelaghDiseasedBrain wrote:Down here in the States means i am north of the 49th parallel you fool.
If you consider yourself an intellectual, I can assure you that you are sadly mistaken.

I am however happy to hear you have admitted yourself finally to be the liar I knew you to be fro your first return post and an idiot just as I expected.

In any event, you can attempt to come back with an “intellectual” email however i promise you I will neither be reading it or even receiving it in my mailbox so feel free to exercise those brilliant brain cells you mistakenly believe yourself to exercise.

And thank you for allowing me to touch a nerve and proving you to be just another one of “that type”
and promises not to insult me over email me again.

now, I do freely admit that you puzzled me with your "Down here in the States means i am north of the 49th parallel you fool." statement, especially in light of the fact that you claim to live in Toronto, which is over 500km south of the 49th parallel, not to mention that the whole sentence doesn't make much sense. I thought most Canadians were better at geography than many of us below the 49th parallel. *cough*

aside from pointing out that you're a bigoted, racist, and ageist individual, and about as bright as a stunted rhododendron, I don't believe I actually called you *any* names.

you however, called me a fool, and idiot, a liar, "that type".
i'd call you a LIAR., but i think the email logs speak for themselves

So what exactly is this valve you are speaking of and how does it work?
since you're incapable of figuring out anything on your own, say, by googling "quattro air anti asphyxiation" I'll just give you this link, and tell you to look on page 2: <link removed> quattro-air-product-quide-resmed pdf

or, perhaps this one, <link removed> /Mask/quattro-series/user-guide/628042r5_quattro-air-quattro-air-for-her_user-guide_amer_eng pdf and say 'look on page 6 (labeled iv on the page itself, and follow the line for item 4.

WOWZA!! That was a very heated exchange. I think I'll just step back and let the two of you continue to talk it out.
