Mouth Breathing after weight loss
Mouth Breathing after weight loss
Over a 2 month period I have lost about 30 pounds but it has caused problems with my CPAP. I have been using nasal pillows from the beginning with no issues. Since my weight loss I am now mouth breathing and it is causing problems with the nasal pillows. Any suggestions?

I will look forward to discovering what someone might come up with to explain that.

Re: Mouth Breathing after weight loss
I have a little problem with things over my face, so can't use a FF mask. But I have now tried Breathe Right strips to tape my mouth closed and it works fairly well.
Re: Mouth Breathing after weight loss
I was about to search on this topic, when I saw this thread on the 1st page. I'm in exactly the same boat: 30 lb lost in 2 months and mouth breathing has dramatically increased (exhale only). Chin strap no longer does the trick.CPAP1305 wrote:Over a 2 month period I have lost about 30 pounds but it has caused problems with my CPAP. On several occasions, over the past 3-4 days, while laying in bed, reading while wearing the mask, I felt an air bubble come from the back of my mouth, to the front. I could either swallow it or let it out of my mouth. I have a theory... I know that my OSA is weight related (may not be cured with loss to a "normal" level, but I slept fine, 6 yrs ago when was 80 lb lighter), so I expect improvement with weight loss. That improvement would logically include decreased pressure required. One of the symptoms of pressure being too high is swallowing air, so it's not irrational to think that it may also cause an increase in exhaling from your mouth. While I have a brick device, I'm planning to decrease my pressure, 2 units, tonight to see if it improves the situation.
Looking forward to the knowledgeable people shooting holes in my theory.
Re: Mouth Breathing after weight loss
Found an old thread where several people reported meaningful weight loss and the need to reduce pressure (due to either mouth breathing or aerophagia). Note that note all people who experience weight loss will be able to lower pressure. Some had to actually increase pressure.
